#1zombiegleemaxOct 08, 2003 3:06:39 | On any Krynnish timeline, the years are given in PC and AC. The PC dates run in down to zero, when the cataclysm happened. However, the people that lived long before the cataclysm would obviously not have marked the years this way. My question is how did the pre-cataclysm people lable the years? And would modern people looking at a date written way back then be able to understand when it meant? |
#2cam_banksOct 08, 2003 10:01:18 | I believe the system of measuring the date was based on the foundation of Istar through the Age of Might, and on similar such foundations in other areas. For example, SOlamnia would have accounted for its years from the Rose Rebellion or the crowning of Vinas Solamnus, etc. Cheers, Cam |
#3brimstoneOct 08, 2003 12:39:51 | Well...the Cataclysm happened in the year 700-n-something...like 772 or something like that, by Istarian reckoning. They use the letters I.A. So, it would be 772 I.A. But, I don't think that is the correct year... |

I was getting my info from Legends...but it's been years since I read it (although I am currently reading Annotated Legends but I haven't even arrived at the Tower of High Sorcery yet), so I couldn't remember the number exactly. But it was the "I.A." that was important...at least I remembered that part right. heh heh |
#8iltharanosOct 10, 2003 21:36:18 | Originally posted by Brimstone No prob. :D The annoying thing is the I.A. calendar (or any calendar for that matter) hasn't been mentioned in the first two books of the Kingpriest trilogy. Ahh well. |
#9shugiOct 13, 2003 0:35:07 | Originally posted by iltharanos The explanation for the IA calendar hasn't been mentioned, but the dates are certainly there. There's also the tiny mention about a previous calendar system in Chosen of the Gods. I don't even use the SC signifier, but that's just me. |
