#2zombiegleemaxOct 08, 2003 12:21:03 | IIRC Olidammara is chaotic neutral so as paladins must be lawful good I'd have thought impossible |

If you're willing to use the core class as a boiler plate for alternative alignment holy knights, then it's pretty easy to come up with something appropriate. Rather than Smite Evil, they'd probably have something like Smite Lawful. I'd allow them to multiclass as bards without risking further paladin advancement. Basically, I'd have fun with the alternative ideas. |

If you insist on using a warrior based sect devoted to Olidammarra. There is an old kit from the 2nd edition Bards handbook known as the Gallant. These are romantic life-loving warrior bards. With a little tweaking you could make them fit with Olidammarra. |

If little or no significance is placed on alignment, then do you what you like. Maybe, you can build clerics, via feats and skills, to fit your conception of the "Olidmarran Paladin." Or, bdunn91 has a good idea. |
#6chatdemonOct 08, 2003 19:02:21 | As I mentioned in the mirror thread over on Canonfire!, in my game, Knight of Olidammara is a slang term for thief (or rogue, for you silly 3e fans ) I really don't see Olidammara having anything resembling a knighthood though, honestly. If you check out Song & Silence, there's a prestige class there for Olidammaran "temple raiders", sort of a thief who specializes in looting the temples of other gods. That might help with fleshing out Oli's church a bit more, if nothing else. |
#7zombiegleemaxOct 08, 2003 21:07:27 | For the most part I don't have a problem with there being holy warriors of multiple religions in a fantasy world. However, I do have a problem with them all being called paladins. Paladins are LG, holy warriors who extol the virtues of righteousness, honour and virtue in all that they do and are. They do NOT prance around in brightly coloured clothing, getting drunk, telling bawdy jokes and playing pranks on people. And, to be honest, I don't even think that a holy warrior would suit Olidammara. He's just not the combatative type. He'd rather get his enemy drunk, shave their eyebrows and put them in womens clothes than smite them. I just don't see a place for holy warriors in Olidammara's church or followers. What would they do? Go around bopping people on the head who don't party enough? Scold people for being too serious and not having enough fun? Prey upon alewives? Sorry, I just don't see the point. |
#8gadodelOct 10, 2003 6:00:26 | I'm not sure why I am finding myself agreeing with Delglath lately...;) Hmmm...a Paladin might be an interesting story, but it would go against the grain of the traditional GH campaign. It might be too radical at this point. In this, it may take away the idea that a Deity of Rogues isn't holy at all. Divine, yes-but not holy...and Paladins have always been "holy" in the GH world I know. |
#9zombiegleemaxOct 11, 2003 2:50:43 | Although the PHB doesn't state it specifically for the Paladin, it's a good guess that Olidammara wouldn't grant divine power to a Paladin claiming his namesake. Clerics don't get class abilities from their deities unless they are within one step of their patron's alignment. I think Paladins are intended to be the same way. |
