#1zombiegleemaxOct 14, 2003 20:31:30 | Warning to my players: Spoilers for our campaign!! Don't read!!! Well hello everyone, it seems I have finally returned from my brief holiday away from DnD and Dragonlance. What did he say? A holiday from Dragonlance? He must be insane! Well those who agree are not far from the truth. Anyhow to my point... (yes I have a point) I am beginning a new DL campaign for my players. They are playing a mystic (one who focuses liberation, a free mind, and 'control' - in my opinion a great and complex character with an evil side you would never see coming), a solamnic knight (some farm boy who wants to wield a sword, not original but very likable), a noble/fighter (I think this character is a dwarf or a human, in any event this character will be the life of the party), and another random character (most likely a fighter type ) As you can tell, most players prefer a warrior type character. This is because the other DM in the area runs a hack-n-slash drizzt cloning computer game of a DnD session, with little character development beyond the feats 'power attack' or 'combat expertise'. So in my campaign I am looking for the complete opposite. Character development, unforgettable villians and edge of the seat excitment. Dungeon crawls are out. schmeh, just abit of DM and player background. Now for my campaign: The Dragon Overlord Gellidus is using the confusion at the end of the War of Souls and the return of the Gods to his advantage. He will launch an invasion of Ergoth and make all people within these domains dependant on him for their survival. He has already begun to spread lies and mayhem in an attempt to turn the population of Ergoth against the rest of Kyrnn. Gellidus hopes that by becoming a esymbol of hope and protectionf the Gods will not attack him and leave him in peace. Each part will be organised as following: Part One: Various Adventures (Levels 1-5) Part Two: The War of Night Volume One: Dragons of a Ravaging Fear (5-9) Part Three: The War of Night Volume Two: Dragons of an Eternal Terror (9-13) Part Four: The War of Night Volume Three: Dragons of Timeless Desire (13-17) In Dragons of a Ravaging Fear, I plan on having the PCs face off against a network of terror agents, thieves and murderers whose goal is to make life in southern ergoth almost unbearable and unescapable. In Dragons of an Eternal Terror, I plan on having Gellidus lead his army to victory over the townships of sourthern and northern ergoth. He will argue to the people he is the light amongst the darkness, that he and only he can keep the peace. Those who resist will be killed. Think Beryl's reign over Qualinesti. In Dragons of a Timeless Desire, the PCs must step up and battle Gellidus to the death and free the innocent people. What I am asking is this: does anyone have any advice or adventure ideas? I don't mean advice like 'keep the players happy', but advice for plot weaving and twists. Thanx |
#2zombiegleemaxOct 14, 2003 21:12:53 | The important and difficult part, in my opinion, is the first stage. That is when you should be forshadowing the mystics fall, and the knights sacrafice, and the rest of the party having to choose sides. Good forshadowing and character bonding in the first one makes the plots for the next stages fall into place. I like your organasationaly scheme btw. |
#3zombiegleemaxOct 14, 2003 22:49:39 | Thanx for the reply Whaledag. Character bonding will be the essential themes for the first few adventures. Foreshadowing the upcomming war is going to take a bit of a backstage thought. As 'the War of the Night comes as sudden as dusk on winter's eve.' Foreshadowing character desires is a good point too. Has anyone actually done this before? |
#4zombiegleemaxOct 16, 2003 0:04:38 | Are these various dragons of.. original modules? |
#5zombiegleemaxOct 17, 2003 1:30:26 | No they are not from the various modules you are thinking of. I created these myself. |
