#1zombiegleemaxOct 14, 2003 22:28:58 | Hey All I got a brainstorm how to make a set of vehicle construction rules that I like alot. The effort is just a rough draft and would like some input into the Ship Construction Rules that I have created. |
#2zombiegleemaxOct 15, 2003 0:00:31 | Greetings,Originally posted by Danastes It looks interesting. However, a few lame "logical" questions, taken at a glance. . . Somethings "feels" askew about the very small sizes. Not sure what, or why, otherwise looks ok at a glance. "It gains bonus hit points based on size. " Why link this to the arbitrary (?) size of an object rather than base it upon the material/mass it is constructed from? After all wouldn't something made of Steel have more HP than, say, something constructed from wood? Why do materials with the same "hardness" warrent having a different "armor bonus"? This doesn't seem to have a logical justification. Kind Regards, Kester Pelagius |

Does hardness have anything at all to do with natural armor? This question was brought up just over 2 years ago (on the SJ3E yahoo group) and then as now it never got a really good answer. I use what has worked. It be a good point of debate. After all wouldn't something made of Steel have more HP than, say, something constructed from wood? If you look you see Hit Dice is linked to cost of ship/vehicle, and steel is more expensive then wood. So that a ships of exactly the same design are but one made of wood and another steel, the steel ship will have more Hit Dice. As for size bonus ... well I been using it for vehicles since I first posted my first conversion of ship contruction rules. Long before WotC changed it in 3.5 for constructs having such. The size bonus idea is Statics that he gave to me sooooo many months ago. Somethings "feels" askew about the very small sizes. Not sure what, or why, otherwise looks ok at a glance. Yeah the problem is that very small ships not take much in material (even the most expensive will require very little gold to create. But then again they only be used by the smallest critters and take very little effort to destroy. The cost of a ship does not include its engine/sails... the driving force that allows motion. A 'Iron Man' suit, built as a vehicle would have to be flexable to allow the man inside to move. Without using other modifiers a suit of steel is 11 gp, but the man would be trapped in an inflexable suit and not able to move. Thus it cost alot more, say about the cost full plate and prehaps a little more. This is the section of rules I not typed out as I still working on the 'mechanics'. For the legal begals out there, I can use help on that to keep this all legal like. Thanks |
