hmm..i seem to recall something about this from the 2nd edition stuff, but i can't remember at all about what it does. all of my older DL stuff was ruined in a flooding deal some years back, so i can't look it up. i was just wondering if any of you remember what this little thing was all about (i seem to recall an interesting backstory to the artifact as well).

thanks a bunch

The coin will eventually condemn your soul to Hiddukel. For this you get little in return. In the old edition it was basically a luckstone. Once per day you could also use the coin to cast continual darkness 15’ radius. Once per turn you could cast Suggestion. You could cast a 20-foot antimagic field. And finally you could cast blight and bestow curse. Of course each time you evoke the powers you had to make a system shock or loose a Charisma point as you became more corrupt.

I recently used this item in my campaign. I didn’t use any of the powers above. The coin was in the possession of Count Nendil, a Qualinesti Senator bend on cornering the Southern economy by making Qualinesti into the strongest economic and military power in the South. Untimely, Qualinesti’s power would grow, its currency value would increase and Hiddukel would use this to achieve his ultimate goal; destroying Krynn’s economy. That’s more or less the short version of it. I used the coin as a conduit to Hiddukel himself, who would grant Count Nendil godly advice so long as he served him well. I think the coin works better if you use it sparingly but you give it whatever powers seem appropriate at the time. However I have to agree with this rule, each time you call on Hiddukel the closer you grow to becoming his slave.

I’m curious to find out if they will bring this artifact into 3.5 DL. It needs some reworking in my opinion.

Oh yes, and the Coin of Greed was part of the Triad of Betrayal. That in itself was a pretty cool epic tale that you piece together by reading all the artifacts envolved.

ahh..it's all coming back to me...

and the triad of betrayal had a good counterpart, too, correct?
the triad of love, or something...

man...there were some really interesting artifacts in dragonlance (no stupid pipe organs and the like)

thanks a bunch..perhaps all of their stories could be posted here? if that's some sort of copyright dealio, that's cool, too. i don't think it would be though.

anyhoo, happy gaming.

Yep (but it was called the Circle of Love)...Caramon and Tika were in possesion of two of the items. Caramon had the Amulet of Trueheart's Warding and Tike had the Ring of Nature's Love both of which could (among other powers) keeps the owners young...they slowed the aging process I believe was the actual term.

Hands of the Healing Spirit was the item that was in direct contention with the Coin of Luck/Greed. It was owned by Huma, and given to Heart. It was eventually picked up by a Kender (as all things are) and returned to D'Argent...who supposedly should one day give it to Gilthanas.

Tasslehoff Burrfoots' adventures are chronicled down to the smallest detail in the Grand Kender Library, but, umm, no one knows where any of the books are. But I read that the Coin of Luck (Coin of Greed) also occassionally adds a +2 to any die roll (roll another die; odd = +2, even = +0). The anti-magic field is created at Hiddukel's whim to keep people from getting help from anyone but him so that he can get more bargaining power. This coin chases the Amulet of the Healing Spirit, a part of the Circle of Love, all over Krynn. That would be funny to see, a coin with legs! I must try to remember to ask a wizard about that. If I can find one that will stay still after they see me. Wizards are always a flighty bunch. But The Great Burrfoot ended up thwarting an evil wizard named Balcombe after he ran into him in a Knightishly-operated town called Tantallon, or something like that, when Tasslehoff was helping Serenda, or something like that, a Sea Elf who needed Flint to make her a bracelet. Anyway, Balcombe had got the coin when he failed the test of high sorcery and it saved his life, but he had to trap souls for Hiddukel from them on. He was also on the High Counsel of the Wizards with Par-Salian and Ladonna. It was a great story, shadow mastifs running all through town and things like that. To think, the Great Burrfoot actually defeated that thing! Wowwie! Anyway, I think I remember a story about a guy named Liam in Northern Ergoth who had that coin once too and started this whole medusa plague, but it may just be my imagination. Well, anyway, happy hunting and whatever you do, don't flip that coin! Also, it may be good to keep something around that makes an anti-anti-magic field.

Love,
Haldon
