Making a calendar

I would like to make a calendar for my Dragonlance Campaign. The kind of calendar you would hang on your wall in real life only with the days and months conforming to the Krynn calendar. I would like to be able to make small notes on it and possibly help track the moons. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to use Microsoft Word or Works to do this?

That would get confusing, though. Because the Krynn calendar is only 360 days long. 12 months of 30 days each.

Or do you mean just for in-world use?

Anyway...it would be fairly easy make.

Take your moon chart from the DLCS, find the date in the 10th month that is depicted as the Night of the Eye (It's probably the last day of the month). Make this your starting point for all the moons in High Sanction, and in conjunction...ie, the "1" position on the DLCS chart. Then just move on from there. Everytime one of the moons changes from High Sanction or Low Sanction to Waxing or Waning or vise versa, mark that day on the make shift calendar.

Then...1,040 days later (exactly 3 years later) it will be the Ansalon version of Halloween again with a true Night of the Eye....and you can start the process all over.

Of course there will have been another Night of the Eye since then...it would have been 520 days later (on the 30th day of the 4th month)...or exactly a year and a half since the last one. Pretty schnazy, huh?

Good luck with that.

Here's a bit of extra that I like:

Only on the 30th day of the 10th month do the people in the Western Hemisphere (ie. where Ansalon is located) get to see the true Night of the Eye. Nuitari moves so quickly through the sky, that the true conjunction actually happens during the day on Ansalon on the 30th day of the 4th month...by the time night falls, Nuitari has moved on its way. However...the wizards still get the bonus of a High Sanction Conjunction, but the people do not get to see it. Therefore, a Night of the Eye only happens on the designated night of the year...and as far as the laymen are concerned...it only happens once every three years.

This is the only way the people in the Eastern Hemisphere (namely the people of Taladas) get to see a High Sanction Conjunction.

Of course, because of the speed Nuitari...if we were to follow true orbital mechanics...the Western Hemisphere should be the only place on Krynn that gets to see the full true Conjuncture. So...to keep Taladas happy...I do a little hand waving. heh heh

Good lord, Brim. I would never be able to sit down and do that, I got a bit confused when you started throwing numbers around.

I once saw a dragonlance compendium for 3.0 that had a page layout for tracking the moons. Now, if I could get hold of something like that, I would be in buisness.

What I am looking for is the steps to creating the form of the calendar. Do I use a spreadsheet? Or just a regular text format and insert a table?

The moon thing I can do by looking at the DCLS. It is complicated but doable.

Oh...all you want is how to physically build a Calendar?

Sheesh...so I wrote up that post fer nuthin'?

Anyway...if I were you, I'd just use Excel, and make each month a new Sheet. It wouldn't be difficult to write a "sub-routine" (that's not really what it is...but it's close)...a mathmatical equation to put a mark everytime the moons change phase. You can even tell it what color to make it. Shouldn't be too overly difficult. I've found Excel to be a handy dandy little program (one of the few Microsoft programs that I have ZERO problems with) heh heh

Unfortunately I do not have Excel. The only programs I have are the basic Microsoft Word and Works. So I need to know how to make a calendar with those tools

Hmm...sorry, I can't help you with that. You could put a table in Microsoft Word...but that'll take so long, you might as well just draw it out by hand. ;)

I think someone just volunteered to make a calendar and post it on the Nexus...(knowledge can be as big of a hindrance as it is a gift).

BTW, on the subject of having problems with Microsoft programs, have you ever made death threats to the paperclip helper in word?

Hmm...that's a thought. Let me see what I can come up with.

And no...I haven't made death threats to the paperclip.

I have however tried to kill-file that damn puppy dog in Microsoft Outlook. ;)

Well, the puppy dog makes up for not wanting the paperclip to die.

No hurry on the calendar though, I was kidding for the most part.

Well, I've got two projects I'm working on first...once they're done (which should be in a week or so) then I can take a look at this. Although now that I think about it...I don't know that I have Excel on my home computer. Maybe I could pirate a copy from work. heh heh

Um...for the IT guys reading my keystrokes...I was just kidding.

There is a font called "Moon Phases" somewhere or another. Maybe that could be used for the marks?

For instance, place a blank for Solinari's Low Sanction, a tiny Red colored moon to indicate High sanction of Lunitari, and a standard colored 3/4 moon to indicate Waxing Nuitari. In size 10, it wouldn't take up much space, and looks all graphical for extra coolness.

Hey there!

If you need the names of the months and days of the week incl. a list of holidays you may find it at:

Here's the closest link I googled:
http://www.csupomona.edu/~jcclark/fonts/

For a completely dark moon, hit "0".
