#1sildatorakOct 30, 2003 2:17:48 | I was just wondering if the typical depiction of pit fiends as male is because they all are or just because of our cultural biases to put in more male pit fiends than females. That is a little narrow for a thread topic, though, because I'm wondering about other fiends at the same time. There was a thread a little while ago that said that 'loths were whatever sex suited them at the moment, and the weakest Tanar'ri and Baatezu, at least, seem to be asexual. But then again, maybe a Lemure isn't asexual...it just has difficulty getting dates. |

Any two lesser Yugoloths mating will produce a mezzoloth. Great Yugoloths - Nycaloths and Arcanaloths are true breeding, and can adopt whichever gender suits them at the moment. However they typically will adopt one form and stick with it for the duration of their existance. Heck, what does it really matter anyways given the Arcanaloths innate shapechange ability at will. Ultraloths don't mate, but can either self inseminate or by parthanogenesis give birth, but always to an Arcanaloth. Apparently the station of Ultraloth is too important to allow a fiend to simply be born into that station. They have to climb up the ladder or lies, skill, guile, and betrayal to reach that lofty position. But some of us are just good enough right where we are in the 'loth heirarchy. Aren't I? *stands before a floor length mirror and twirls around a few times in a tight and rather flattering blue/green gown* *more of the self fawning and preening* [drops back ooc] Devils tend to be one sex or the other, and they don't deviate from that single identity. I think most of the lesser forms though tend to be asexual. Baatezu don't tend to breed among themselves except for the nobles. Station may dictate sex sometimes of course. I don't honestly think there's male Erinyes. *shrugs* Tanar'ri change genders like most people change clothes. At random whimsy. However the more powerful the Tanar'ri the more likely they are to adopt and stick with one sex simply because they can't risk their positions by using their power to alter their sex as an effectively meaningless and useless gesture of vanity. Tanar'ri don't tend to breed among themselves either. It seems rather exclusively a 'loth preoccupation. There's a joke somewhere about the fiends being CE, LE, and Neutral Randy... |

Maraliths are true Tanar'ri as opposed to the less power greater, lesser, and least Tanar'ri types. It just so happens apparently that Maraliths as a rule all appear female. *shrugs* Read into that whatever you want, though I think it best to just metagame and assume they are because they were originally designed as looking rather prominantly female. |
