First off, I was just now able to get the DLCS and I love it! Sov. Press did an excellent job. Reading through, I got so much inspiration it was scary. Now for my campaign idea. Two years post WoS, the Dark Knights are gathering all evil forces to them, paying them well as mercenaries and are planning to invade the land that the Solamnic Knights still hold. At least that's what the refugees that manage to flee from the north say. Because rumors have often proved true in the past, the KoS are assembling an army, taking in almost countless young men and women and making them members of the KoS. However, very few men can be spared to scout the North and verify the rumors, thus they will take volunteers (the PC's) and a Knight in good standing with the KoS (an NPC, players are new to DL). The players will travel north to Palanthas, where it is said that the armies are gathering. I plan to roleplay this time to allow the players to build on their characters. Upon reaching Palanthas, they will find the rumors to be true, and that with these armies of Draconians, Ogres, Death Knights, Tarmaks, etc, the KoN greatly outnumber the forces of good. The PC's will also enter Palanthas, without the KoS, but with an NPC kender :D and discover that the minotaur occupation in Silvanesti and the Goblin occupation in Qualinesti have been contacted and have agreed to attack from the South while the KoN attack from the North. The elves and dwarves are contacted by the KoS and both agree to join the humans, the dwarves wanting trade and both groups of elves wishing the restoration of their homelands. The elves also wish that the swords Wyrmslayer and Wyrmsbane be recovered and given to them by a KoS as a show of good faith between humans and elves. The KoS grudgingly agree to the terms. And here is my problem. I have thought to have Wyrmslayer in Nalis Aren, thinking that it would have been taken to Qualinost, and now lying in a hidden antechamber at the bottom of the lake. My problem is how would the players reach this antechamber? I was thinking of a secret tunnel, but where to place it's opening? Any ideas?

I never finished the WoS trilogy and havn't read DL in few years so this might sound really stupid. Why don't you have an entrance to the cave behind a waterfall thats far above the actual lake. Then you have a pit trap that is like a laundry shoot(sp) that drops them down below the lake. Under the lake you could have a big cave system/crypt.

The dwarves created dozens of tunnels to help the elves flee Qualenesti. I can't imagine every single one was destroyed by Beryl, which resulted in the Lake of Death. I would greate a side tunnel that the Dwarves consructed, as an off shoot of the main tunnels and use this as my entry point.

Now see, Drakerym, I had that same idea, but what would have stopped the dwarves from going into this underground chamber and recovering any artifacts from it for themselves. I think that if the dwarves had the sword, they would prize it and be loathe to relinquish it. Tas's idea could work, but the land around it is currently occupied by goblinoids. What was to stop them from accidently discovering this if they were going to be searching for something elven to recover for themselves? You see, I have thought of these before, but the questions keep coming. I do though appreciate the input and maybe we can solve these problems.

Ok, how bout this: The original underground vault or what have you was built by the elves. The dwarves unknowwingly built a service tunnel right next door. When Beryl crashed into the tunnels, the resulting destruction led to the walls between the vault and teh tunnel to collapse essentially joining the two together. As the dwarves helping the elves was the best kept secret on Krynn at the time (even Beryl's spies didn't know) would a race as intelligently challenged as goblinoids have figured it out? Maybe not.

What if the goblins had accidentaly stumbled upon it (I'm a kender using big words...) and the PC's have to recover it from the goblin infested cave. They could be like super goblins with alot of character levels if you have high level PC's. You could give all the goblins potions of fly and have them shoot at the PC's and make the PC's do something creative like shoot a fireball up in the air. Or the goblins could have trained a dragon from a wyrmling and have the sword be in the mature dragons hoard. So they would have to go through flying goblins and a dragon. I'm kidding about the dragon just so you know...letting out the kender within.

While Tas's idea is rather entertaining, I think I will use yours, Drakerym. I was originally planning the party to travel to Thorbardin anyway, and have the tunnel branch from there. If the tunnel the dwarves built was next to a second tunnel that led to the treasury where the sword is held, and the two were only connected by Beryl's crash, as you said, then the dwarves would have no idea of it's existence. Or, they could know, but I could place undead elven warriors as guardians, preventing the dwarves from entering out of fear. It's a little Sla-Mori inspired obviously, but it would work and provide a challenge for the PC's. Now I'm brimming with ideas. The entry way could be unstable, and collapse after the PC's obtain the sword. I have to go, but I'll post later.
