Or as I like to call them Barge-Ar$e... ANYWAY ... on of my players decided to play one of these. I was trying to recall their background but I may of mixed things up. If anyone can clarify, please do.

Barghest are goblin equivlent of Baatezu. They act as the generals in the neverending war between kobold and goblins/hobglobins. They serve on some plane as generals.

Sound right? Thanks.

Barghest.

Not sure about their history.

I am pretty sure they're not baatezu, nor are they "demons" by the 3E classification. I could be wrong on that. Also, I think Barghests are supposedly native to Gehenna, but again I could be wrong. Something in my 'lothling mind makes me think this is so.

You are aware that Barghest need only to devour Souls to gain HD?
Theoretically your player could double his HD in one session.

They're a minor planar race, not associated with either Baatezu, Tanar'ri, or Yugoloth. Much the same as the Hags or Hordlings are to the 'loths, or more appropriately how the Kytons are to the Baatezu. Same plane, minor native race unique to itself.

And yes, I believe that they're native to Gehenna. I don't recall if their origins ever got detailed any, though I suspect that they might arise from the petitioners of one or more of the goblinoid races. Thats my feeling on them anyways, unless something else in canon contradicts the statement. *shrugs*

And yeah, the soul devouring = hit dice increase would be brutal in the hands of a player. Thats very much asking for the inmates to be running the asylum, so to speak. ;)

Of course I realise this. But this is a redeemed Barghest (atleast he is trying) and refrains from eating people. His alignment has already shifted to LN from LE.

Thanks all.

Even if he's LN he could consume animals' or enemy humanoids' souls

Not if he wants to be LG one day.

The situation is a bit more complicated then that. The character is trying to be good, so he avoids evil acts as much as possible. Sometimes his nature takes over and he does something evil. To remind him he wears a collar that zaps him everytime he tries to eat someone.

*chuckle* As antithetical as it seems to the character's race, thats just getting amusing there. I'd enjoy seeing that played out in a game

"Sooo.... speaking of collars to zap people when they do things contrary to their new alignment to keep them from backsliding..."

*fiendish grin with hints of pale violet flames licking from eyes*

"How much to get A'kin collared with one of those? Sort of a 'bell the 'loth' thing. Oh that would be so fun..."

Seeing you helped out so much with the chant, a nudge and wink should do it, your foxy-ness.

Shemeska, I didn't know you wanted to collar A'kin! I didn't know you were into that kind of thing with him. But since you are, might I point out that there is a kyton chain maker that lives on Tiefling row? He'll even fit them with nice velvet manacles for you.

This explains how those rumors of him throwing himself against the walls came in to being...

[Oh so OOC]

DOH! So much I could say on that... you perverts :D

And thus another thread devolves into Shemeska bashing ;)

You could have your very own thread, lass.

Besides, let's face it, the most pricey dark Shemska has is what -really- goes on between her and A'Kin.

Of course, if any of it occurs near ashes, open flames, or, least likely of all, bright light, it may already be known...
