#1old_sageNov 06, 2003 1:33:20 | I have been thinking about utilising a number of Flying Citadels in a new DL campaign that I am creating, but I have no source of information on them, other than what has been written in the Chronicles and Legends trilogies and the old DL Atlas. Does anyone know of any current information and/or stats for these.....Do stats for Flying Citadels even exist?. Thanks in advance... ;) |
#2zombiegleemaxNov 06, 2003 7:35:27 | Other than suggesting that you draw a map of a citadel, add a control room and perhaps some floors that would be a little unsteady, and give it a fly speed, I don't think there is anything else you can do. There's The Citadel, a book in the Classics series. It describes an uber-citadel that runs of the life energy of living wizards, or something like that. Read it, it's good. Although it has made me think - flying citadels must have been around for quite a while, since Hylo was made out of one. So how come they came as such a surprise in the War of the Lance? |
#3zombiegleemaxNov 06, 2003 8:54:11 | I don´t think many people knew (or cared) how the kender nation was founded...and besides Hylo was founded 2600PC and a lot of lore and info on Pre-Cataclysm Ansalon was lost when the fiery mountain hit Istar... And who wouldn´t be surprised to see a citadel come flying towards you? I would! |
#4zombiegleemaxNov 06, 2003 8:56:17 | So how come they came as such a surprise in the War of the Lance? Why were people surprised when they saw dragons? Why were people surprised when they saw Soth? Just because something has existed for ages, doesn't mean people either A. Believe it or B. Have noticed. And yeah. Nobody cares about Hylo. EDIT: Sorry Brim. I was being rhetorical, mostly. There's a quote to clarify. |

#8mulaNov 07, 2003 6:31:48 | Try Stronghold Builder's Guidebook. It has stats for all kinds of fortresses and citadels, magical and mundane. It's a good book. |
#9zombiegleemaxNov 07, 2003 18:39:23 | I was unaware that they had published stats on the flying citadels. |
#10zombiegleemaxNov 07, 2003 21:16:20 | I wouldn't worry about stats. It's a castle that flys. Even siege weapons will only cause superficial damage to the walls. Just don't cast M. Disjunction anywhere near it! :D |
#11DragonhelmNov 07, 2003 22:09:06 | I want to say there's something on them in one of the original module series. Not sure on that, though. I'm hoping (*crosses fingers*) that there will be info on them in War of the Lance when it comes out next summer. When my buddy Dave was running one of the games that War of the Dark Lance was based on, he converted Icewall Castle into a flying citadel. Imagine, if you would, a flying citadel covered in ice and snow, floating above a glacier that moves at unnatural speeds, that lands within the glacier. Of course, what I wonder is why the good guys don't make flying citadels of their own. I'm sure it's probably a matter of necessity and appearances, but it would be interesting. Imagine making the Citadel of Light into a flying citadel. lol |
#12old_sageNov 08, 2003 8:55:45 | Actually, Dragonhelm...IIRC, didn't you write something about a Flying Citadel with a Spelljamming Helm?. I believe it was detailed in your Guide to Krynnspace. What can you tell me about that?. |
#13carteegNov 08, 2003 18:45:53 | I also wish for more info on the number of citadels myself, even just in the WotL. In one campaign we had a side-adventure in which a citadel was sitting directly over Caergoth (another part of Krynn with little to no information on it). One of the reasons why I'm interested in the citadel and Caergoth information is because the battle ended when the citadel itself came down into the city. Well, the rock base hit the western end of the city... most of the building collapsed and fell off the cliff into the water. Now a massively damaged toppled citadel is located within a highly populated area. Too bad the Dragonarmies kept the city. [DM looks to the players and sighs...] Locations for information on Caergoth would be nice too, if anyone knows of some. [Hey, I was trying to avoid a nonsequitor here.... :D ] |
#14DragonhelmNov 09, 2003 9:48:45 | Originally posted by Old Sage In my Krynnspace guide, I create a Dragonfleet, formed from the ranks of the Dragonarmies, which has the goal of conquering the entire sphere of Krynnspace. The Dragonarmies come across a spelljamming helm, and decide to outfit a flying citadel with it. Now the flying citadel has an air envelope, gravity, and the works. It has taken several years to amass a fleet in Krynnspace, but the Dragonfleet is now the most powerful mobile force within the sphere. Ships take off and dock at the flying citadel, and as their headquarters are mobile, they're hard to track. This is of extreme concern to the Knights of Krynnspace. |
#15old_sageNov 09, 2003 9:56:41 | Thanks for the information Dragonhelm, I appreciate it ;). |
#16old_sageNov 09, 2003 10:02:31 | Okay, now lets talk about some of the various combat systems for this spelljamming Flying Citadel - both offensive and defensive. What do the Flying Citadels in DL use for offensive and defensive systems (besides flights of blue and black dragons)?. What types of weapons would be most appropriate for a Flying Citadel operating in Wildspace, and...if we're not stretching too far into the realms of the Spelljammer universe (on the DL forums), would it be possible for this Spelljamming Citadel to leave Krynnspace and head out into the Flow?. Thanks in advance ;). |
#17zombiegleemaxNov 25, 2003 7:36:45 | Their is a description of the citadel in DL13 page 13-15. They describe their the control room and how it work, the "engine room" and also give the level of the spell (they need a mage and a priest to do that) theyr use to make them. Shadu |
