For me, most Greyhawk adventures begin and end in or near the Gem of the Flanaess itself. The boxed set of the same name was one of my first AD&D items, and remains one of my favorite. I used to love pouring over the maps of the Domain and City, noting where my characters had been, and wondering where to send my players. I liked memorizing the names and locations of all the important buildings and NPCs. If you got bored with bar brawls at the Green Dragon Inn, chasing thieves down dark alleys, exploring abandoned mansions (or robbing inhabited ones), and taking on the exotic monster that popped up out of the sewers after it grew too big and its owner had had to flush it; well, you never had to go much further. The Cairn Hills, the Mistmarsh, the Gnarley Forest, the Nyr Dyv, the Bright Desert, the Wild Coast, and the Abbor-Alz were bloated with adventure hooks, and all with a relatively short distance. True, it was a long time ago that I played it, and in a really half-assed way too (I didn't have all the rulebooks I needed), but I still had a great time doing it. Does/did anyone else here have any good campaigns/adventures/fond memories primarily set in or based on the Free City of Greyhawk? |

A trip from the selintan to the nyr dyv and to some undiscovered island may be interesting, or maybe an underwater adventure in the Nyr dyv( my players experienced Megadolons' attacks in a batyscaphe, it was ..funny), let's had a ghost ship and you can make them dream for a while. The return to the city will be even better! the mitsmarsh may be interesting, some kind of reptilians temple devoted to Wastri or a Draconic god may frighten them.. the mist on a little barge , th e mosquitos, when the night is coming. blablabla... ;) Lot of interesting opportunities around Greyhawk city. And of course the gnarley with little village, ranger and elf community. Good luck! |

Not to mention it is a great place for those new to the campaign setting to get their start. But in my opinion, I prefer the less explored territories of the campaign world. The baklunish lands, blackmoor, and those lands never truely detailed for the campaign setting. I like how Aeolius details his GH campaign oceans and other water ways. While it doesn't fit my particular style, it definately gets points for originality. With that said, I focus my campaign in The Archclercy of Veluna. Many people would say that nothing interesting happens their. But I like the religous political struggles that can and do occur in oligarchies. Which is why I also enjoy The Theocracy of the Pale. Which in my campaign world is considered evil because of their monotheism approach to religion. Remember just about every were else in the world Polytheism is considered normal. That's my two cent's! |
