The idea of a branch of Knights of Takhisis known as Talons of Takhisis (a special unit of dragonslayers hunting good dragons) formed in my head. Or perhaps an elite unit of draconians used during the War of the Lance...what say you my fellow Dragonlance freaks? Has this already been created...? |

Personally, I'm all for adapting almost everything in the Draconomicon (with a few tweaks) to the dragonlance setting, with the exception of the monsters. For example, I'm planning to adapt the Dracolytes to the setting as a Mishakalite order looking after the wyrmling dragons left orphaned by the dragon purge. I think we, as dragonlance fans, were very lucky to get the Draconomicon. Unlike fans of other settings, we can certainly get the maximum amount of use out of a rulebook involving dragons, given that dragonlance, at its heart, is a dragon-centered campaign. |

But then where would the Talons get their powers from? I´m assuming that their powers are granted by their goddess (Tiamat or Takhisis...) |

Remember, the churches didn't go anywhere during the age of mortals. Goldmoon was still the revered daughter in charge of the Mishakalite church, while Crysania was the prophet of Paladine. I imagine that Takhisis' church will continue to be synonomous with the Knights of Nereka, who will gain their identity and honour back through devotion to their dead goddess. Following Takhisis an ideal of beatific perfection and order was difficult when she was alive, but is much easier now that she isn't scheming and backstabbing. Mina will be there as a charismatic leader and idealogue, and to purge those who aren't susceptible to the brain washing. The church of Paladine has many different options, which I cannot even to begin to speculate on. While the path for the Church of Takhisis was written in the War of Souls, what role the followers of Paladine will play will have to be explained in the new "Holy Order of the Stars" book. |

As for the Talon idea I think is a bit redundant to create a Prestige Class for a Prestige Class. The Knights are cool enough the way they are. The only way I could see it if it was a very low-level prestige class, say up to 3 levels, so it doesn’t get in the way and you come out with a trully elite knight. |
#8brimstoneNov 18, 2003 16:30:54 | Originally posted by ferratus I did happen to notice the Ethereal Dragons in the Draconomicon. Pretty cool. So...there you have it...an Astral Dragon, an Ethereal Dragon, and a Shadow Dragon...the balance is kept. :D |
#9DragonhelmNov 18, 2003 16:49:50 | Originally posted by Baron the Curse Normally, I wouldn't advocate this sort of thing. However, I think Dragonlance has already proven to be the type of setting that this would be okay for. Already the War Mage and Solamnic Auxiliary Mage fit the bill for this. Also, imagine some other setting-specific roles, such as renegade hunters for the WoHS, or PrC's for the factions of the Skull Knights as presented in Heroes of Hope. As long as adding another PrC fits with the theme of the character and the character meets the prerequisites, it really isn't a problem. I'm going to have to re-read the entry on the Talon of Tiamat and the Platinum Knight sometime soon. BTW, there is a dragon god (forget the name) who sounds a lot like Mishakal. The god is a silver dragon, which have been associated with Mishakal from time to time. It could be another avatar for the goddess. |
