They were founded years later by Ariakan...just thought you should know :D I too would be interesting in knowing more about Nordmaar and the Hive! |
#3Herr_DoktorNov 21, 2003 20:34:04 | I know that the prestige class wasn't around... Were the warriors who made up the Dark Queens armies known by a specific name? |
#4zombiegleemaxNov 21, 2003 20:50:00 | Mercenaries...evil humans, ogres, goblins etc etc looking for plunder. The only ones with any "title" were the generals of the Dragonarmies. They were Dragon Highlords...one of them was Lord Ariakas - Ariakan´s father. |
#5zombiegleemaxNov 21, 2003 21:39:02 | Units were known by dragonarmy color of which they were a part, i.e. soldiers of the Black Dragonarmy, Soldiers of the Blue Dragonarmy, of the Green Dragonarmy, Red Dragonarmy, and White Dragonarmy. If you wanted to, you could call them Talons, though that is a unit label for the Knights of Takhisis. Not sure of the size of a Talon, but I think it was either platoon or company size. The Elite of the warriors of the Dragonarmies were the ones who actually rode dragons, as not all of the evil dragon riders were Highlords, as shown by Bakaris, a Lieutenant ( or Commander, I forget his rank) in the Blue Dragonarmy headed by Kitiara. Since in the books they don't go into tremendous detail in the makeup of the Dragonarmies, you could if you wanted to, make an elite ground unit in each of the Armies, using whatever PrC or lack thereof to show them to be elite. Kitiara or Araikus are the most likely to have elite troops, because they are the most foward thinking and military minded of the Highlords. An example would be Kit may have troops that use the Knight of the Lily PrC, who have been trained in part by Soth at Dargaard, and both may sprinkle War Mages among their special troops, since they would both understand the value of magic in a military force. |

#7iltharanosNov 22, 2003 1:17:08 | Hehe, had to dig out my hardcover copy of the Second Generation for this, but in the appendix it states: 1 Talon = 9 Knights 1 Wing = 5 Talons (45 knights) 1 Compgroup = 7 Wings (350 knights) [my notes: Hmm, that's some bad math there, the number should actually be 315, as indicated by the knight totals for the Shield] 1 Shield = 5 Companies/Compgroups (1,575) + support 1 Quadron = 4 Battalions (6,300) + support 1 Army = 7 Regiments (44,100) + support So ... Shield = Battalion Quadron = Regiment |
#8Herr_DoktorNov 22, 2003 1:24:17 | Thanks for help with the dragonarmies and numbers and such, it'll be very useful. Has anyone got any info on Nordmaar or the Hive during the War of the Lance? Specifically in 350 AC "Evil Rearms Itself". Any major villains, NPCs of note in the region? |
#9iltharanosNov 22, 2003 1:32:36 | Nordmaar has been one of those places that's got very little detailed about it. This sucks if you're looking for specifics ... but it's a good thing since as DM you can make up your own NPCs, your own conflicts, and it won't contradict any canon material simply because there is so very little canon material. Best I can tell you is that Nordmaar was occupied by the Red dragonarmy throughout the War of the Lance and that even after the War of the Lance the Red Dragonarmy still occupied portions of Nordmaar, mainly the Great Moors area in the southeast of the country. |
#10jonesyNov 22, 2003 7:28:21 | What happened to the Hive that it no longer exists during the Age of Mortals? Was this detailed in any novels, accesories, or adventure modules? It hasn't been detailed in novels, but a similar hive makes an appearance in the story Reorx Steps Out (or Reorx Pays a Visit as it is also known for some reason) in the book Heroes and Fools. The hive in the story is located near a dwarven village in the foothills of the Kharolis mountains near the Qualinesti border. |
