Has anyone read this book? Is it about Lady Kateri Shadowborn? What is the curse of Shadowborn manor?

Warning: this may have spoilers ahead:

I've read it a few years ago. It's not so much about Kateri as about her descendent (son ?), Alexis. He fails his test for paladinhood and instead becomes a lode paladin, which serves as a tool for higher and more difficult tasks for the god: in this case, to try to destroy Ebonbane who's taken up residence at Shadowborn Manor after the death of Kateri... well, he kind of fails, but at least (I think, but don't remember too well) he somehow curses Ebonbane by imprisoning him in a sword. I'm not sure about the end, but I think that was it :embarrass

Bad novel! Bad novel!

To quote a review on the Kargatane; "Cutesy little sister! Peh! Idyllic life! Double Peh!" or words to that effect.

Worst Ravenloft novel out, and I've read Tapestry.

Actually i liked it pretty well. Not my favorite RL book by far but it wasn't that bad... i thought "death of a dark lord" was the worst one... I have all of them and that one i can't bring myself to reread pretty much ever... Anway the story is actually a little different.

spoiler <-- just making sure you realize!!!!!!!!

Ok actually Ebonbane is already trapped in the sword when he kills Lady Shadowborn. Alexi destroys the sword and takes ebonbane into his own body due to the nature of the load paladin and so instead of being imprisoned in the sword the darklord is now imprisoned in Alexi! by the way, there was additional fiction on this in one of the kargatane book of S_'s. It was a great pic of work in my opinion. Does anyone know if it counts as canon with SS. I think it is a great premise.

Speaking of which, has anyone been reading the Dragonlance Kingpriest trilogy? I saw the last one, Sacred Fire at the bookstore and was thumbing through it to see if I wanted to buy it now. I happened to catch the name of a sword in it; Ebonbane!
I have the first two books in the set, but haven't read them yet. Anyone; same Ebonbane that was later brought to Ravenloft, or a different one?

From the responses that I have read on this board it sounds as if the book sucks.

I don't agree. I liked it quite a bit. Not a Hemmingway novel but it's still a good little story. It gives a lot of background for the Shadowland cluster and Alexei's story is tragic. Maybe it does looks a little like Luke Skywalker's story but in that case, a lot other stories must be similar.

Don't tell me that someone gets turned over to the darkside of the force.

To make matters worse I really like Tapestry of Dark Soul. First Ravenloft book I read and first book I read in which basically every heroic character dies or get maimed. I couldn't believe it!

Is that the one where they had the shroud at that monastery? On the front is a monk holding the shroud right? If that is the one you are talking about that book is tight!

I like Tapestry, but I think the beginning half is better than the second.

If it helps, I thoroughly enjoyed Shadowborn.

I second Chris on this one; Shadowborn was a great novel in my opinion. Ravenloft has needed a champion of light for some time, and the Shadowborn family seems very nicely suited towards that role.

It was the book of Shadows and the short story about Shadowborn Manor, written by JWM I must add, was pure genius.

For what it's worth I quite liked Shadowborn but thought Tapestry was appalling.

And does anyone have an answer to Catman's question? Does Ebonbane come from Krynn???

I agree wholeheartly!

No...

Spoilers below...

Ebonbane is a demon from the lower planes (A Balor I think) and he was summoned to the Great Kingdom. Now we don't know anything about this Kingdom. I don't think it's from Krynn though, I think that like Barovia it's just a nameless prime material world from which the Mists drew Darklords. Three darklords come from the Great Kingdom: Ebonbane (Shadowborn Manor), Morgoroth (spelling???) (Avonleigh) and Elena Faith-Hold (Nidala)

Shadowborn is an excellent read. I especially like how it shows that even heroes can be flawed.
