They look like most stingers on realms controlled by the Demon Lord, but they are magically enchanted. It is rumored that they were crafted by the Yugoloths as a way to more directly affect the Blood War. These coins bestow upon their owner extra strength to slay Baatezu. As long as a warrior has the coin on his person, the coins grant him a +1 profane bonus to hit and damage when fighting devils. Often, bearers of the coin do not even realize that it is the stinger that gives them their newfound battle strength. Any Yugoloth within 50 feet of a bearer of the coin is instantly aware of that fact. Bearer's of of these stingers are treated as familiar to any Yugoloth attempting to Scry on them. Faint evocation;CL 12th; Create Wondrous Item, Magic Weapon, caster must be evil; 2,500gp 1sp The Bearer of Bad Luck Once a normal Two-headed Stinger of Demogorgon, the Bearer of Bad Luck was dropped during a Blood War battle and sat in a pool of Tanar'ri nlood. Absorbing the creatures evil and malice the coin gained sentience, its newfound mind causing it to bemoan its fate, trapped on Hades in a pool of blood. After being picked up by a pair of scavenging Tieflings, the bearer of Bad Luck began a cycle of owner after owner. Very few of its owners knew that the stinger had any special powers, it choosing to reveal itself only to those that could help it complete its goal to destroy all Baatezu. Each of its owners met uncharacteristically unlucky ends. One Dretch tripped and fell through a portal to Mechanus. A human woman who'd lived in Sigil all of her life stepped onto her front porch and fell straight into an ooze portal. A young astral deva ended up trapped on the 478th level of the Abyss on his way to Ysgard. The list goes on and on. The coin is rather weak in general. It cannot speak, it only has empathic ability. Along with normal abilities for being a Two-Headed Stinger of Demogorgon, the coin can Bless its bearer or his allies 3/day. It can also use Detect Magic at will, though whether it wishes to give up the information it gains is its own business. But when used in the battle against Devils the Bearer of Bad Luck comes into its own. While in pursuit of destroying Devils the coin can cast a 10d6 Lightning Bolt. The Bearer of Bad Luck has Int - 10, Wis - 13, and Cha - 13. It has an ego score of 9. The coin can hear and see anything within 60ft. Its alignment is CE. Makes me wonder if the 'loths that created them have a similar coin for use against demons as well. And of course, that dretch just HAPPENED to end up in Mechanus. Coincidence, I'm sure. |
