I just saw this book on Amazon. Can people still recommend I pick it up?

What other old books should I pick up if I see them?

I wouldn't recommend it unless you're running a 2ed game. It does have some good info for 3ED (Darklords not yet described like Anton Misroi) but other than that, it doesn't countain anything really worth it. The timeline is outdated, the new classes are either in VRA or have been dropped (like the gypsy which was the worst class created). Rules for fear and all have been updated, altered magic and powers check also.

I would recommend this, however. It has some nice info on Darklords not yet featured in 3E, or that are now gone It has an excellent description of Ravenloft as it was meant to be. The description of Madness checks is about 3 pages longer, and although the mechanics are better in 3E. The tips on building adventures fit for Ravenloft is more comprehensive, and although the info on races and classes is outdated, I still find some usable things in there, like the descriptions of the different races.

The maps, although some *will* disagree, are fine, and I usually use these maps to show the players how Ravenloft is, as they are a bit more descriptive than the ones in 3E. The art in general is also top notch. I especially love the portraits of Victor Mordenheim and Adam, GAbrielle Aderre & Strahd.

Of course I'm biased, this was the book that brought me into the Mists. But I still feel it's worth picking up.

I concur. I really liked this book and still keep it on the shelf with the rest of the 3.0/3.5 material

You don't *need* this book but its a very good reference and captures the feel of Ravenloft as well as any other product on the market.

Agreed, Get the book. 2e had much more flavor than 3e anyway. 3e has better mechanics though.
