#1zombiegleemaxDec 02, 2003 10:12:11 | I'm DMing a group right now and they defeated a rogue knight serving Sargonnas. As he was slain, the knight lay a curse on the group. I really like the idea of doing this, but I have a few questions.... 1) When the knight curses the group, does the group get a saving throw to avoid the curse? 2) I'm looking for original ideas for curses. I don't want to use the simple way out and make it a -6 on an ability score. Any original ideas? The curse will be lifted when they manage to slay the knight's boss. |

I would suggest the afflicted heroes start inciting small disagreements and arguments in their vicinity at first, building over time to the point where no matter where they go, fights break out, tempers flare, and wars are declared. Naturally, all of this conflict gets blamed on the heroes, and NPCs will be progressively more and more hostile to them. Don't give them a saving throw - this is a plot device, not a game mechanic. Allow them to roleplay out their reactions to the ever-increasing aura of discord and violence they seem to be projecting, and see if they notice. It would be even better if they had to go to some council or meeting of normally sensible and peaceful leaders, only to find it dissolve into a bloody fist-fight and brawl between the councilmembers... Cheers, Cam |

Seeing as the knight was serving Sargonnas, and Sargonnas is a god of vengeance, conquest, strength, and rage you could always have the PCs lose their strength at a key moment, or they fly into a rage in the middle of a diplomatic conference, or perhaps they get captured and become slaves. Of course you could always go with the age old adage where the knight's boss wants "vengeance" against them for the slaying. You know kinda like the boss hires a group of bonuty hunters to find and capture the PCs, as slaves they are worked to death and when they are ready to try and escape there are some rescuers coming to get them and the PCs accidently attack these rescuers and almost slay them. Yeah, Yeah I like that!!! Hey I might even use that. Thanks, I gotta go write up an ambush. Wait, I need to have the PCs kill a rogue knight first. |
