I was thinking about trying to run planescape for my friends out here. (I've got a ton of reading to do first, I started gameing a big 3 years ago so i'm still not that great) The idea I had was to hunt down the module i've heard about where the fiends acctually lost the ablity to teleport without error (from whatever brain that gave it to them getting a bath int he styx).

I was going to try and do something along simular lines, except to have a mage have located an artifact which is acctually the sorce of the fiends ablity to summon others of thier kind. I was planning on useing the planescape material from the planewalker site and trying to go from there. I would greatly appricate any advice, comments, or thoughts on the matter.

That adventure was called Squaring the Circle and it was part of the Deluxe adventure Boxed set called Hellbound: The Bloodwar. A very good and dangerous mission for a group of PC's to tackle.

Hello mortals! Xanxost would like to warn the DM to be careful with that module too. The way Xanxost hears it, there is a minor artifact that the do-gooders can get their hands on. Xanxost thinks that the artifact is the one made out of mortal tongues, and they talk about it in the Book of Vile Darkness. Xanxost doesn't know, Xanxost would like to read the Book of Happy Chaos.

First of all don't worry, I only started gaming about 3 years ago as well. :D

Experience means little if you've got good ideas and you're willing to devote the time to get to know the system and generate a good plot!

And yes, in 'Squaring the Circle' the PC's can potentially get the Despoiler of Flesh from Tapheon the Nalfeshnee. In fact when I was playing in an FR gone Planescape campaign about two years ago we actually got it ourselves, stuffed it into a bag of holding and forgot about it out of character. When the BoVD was published we realized in a flash what we'd been sitting on, much to the DM's lament. However we were good and went about destroying it. (Though I have my doubts that Kelben actually did destroy it... but that campaign has withered away since the DM of that game discovered her obsession for Hockey)

Ah yes, I remember the Despoiler of Flesh. While I was DM of the quest that contained that "wand", a PC ranger and member of the Fated, Kane, had his entire lower body turned into that of a snake, thanks to that little item. After being forced to slither from destination to destination from that point on, he grew "less friendly" toward others (best way to describe it) and his alignment shifted to from NG to TN due to the change in his personality.

I love it when things like that surprise that PC's.

Actually when my PC's were in the Tower of Indifference Tapheon used his mind reading powers to probe the PC's. One, a tiefling Fighter named Kevden Megdal, a Fated Factotum, had lost his wife somewhere in the planes in his background (she was an adventurer too).

So when the Heroes finally entered his "throne room" the Nalfeshnee tossed a Body down from the high perch that was the battered and flayed image of his dearest love!!! Oh the RAGE that ensued from my players. I'm more insidious than a fiend at times.

Well the Xaositect Wild mage (one Renqual the Wild of Xaos)dimension doored Kevden to the shelf and surged doing so (in the Abyss, so he took the worse of his two rolls) and got hit with his highest remaining offensive spell (a cone of cold) and nearly died as his Ethyk familiar ate the big one! It was almost as good as the time he got hit with a meteor. Oh I love that adventure.
