Good evening,

Hello everyone, I was wondering in Ravenloft besides Strahd what is the most power species of Vampire/Nosferatu in the Realms?

I know this is prolly a stuipd question though I am looking for the most powerful race of vampires to use in my campaign. I am running a Vampire Hunter Campaign. Could anyone be willing to help?

If the most powerful race of Vampire isnt in Ravenloft please let me know where it would be found, so I can purchace the correct information at my local hobby store.

Thank You,

Two books: RL Campaign Setting since it has rules for advancing Vampires from the MM as they age.

Then Denizens of Darkness which contains several strains with age advancement: Oriental, Nosferatu (variant on the MM type), Vrykolaka (hideous plague vampire), Dwarven, Elven, Halfling and Gnomic strains.
None is more powerful but the RL Setting does give rules to customise vamps, making them powerful like Strahd is.

Charney's advice is excellent and is the first place you should look.

You would likely find the 2E VanRichten Guide to vampires very useful if you could find it on ebay or in a used bin at a local gaming store. I can't recomend this enough for the type of campaign you are describing. Like the above, VR'sG will let you (1) customise Vampires and (2) give you a wealth of information on motivations and possible plots for your campaign.

Though you will find it less useful I also recomend you at least look at the 3.0 Van Richten's Guide to the Walking Dead. It should be essentially compliant with the changes to 3.5 though I haven't gone through it with an eye towards that yet. No they aren't vampires, but they could be a vampires minions & some of the hungery dead described could be mistaken for vampires. Many salient abilities might also be given to vampires allowing for more customization. As a last thought won't your PCs be pleasantly surprised when their garlic and mirrors do nothing in the face of the beastie...

There are a psionic variation of vampires as well but I don't remember where they were last listed.

The Monsters Handbook by Legends and Lairs is all about customising monsters and is IMO their best product to date. The undead section has some good bits in it that would be well wrth looking at, though on the whole it is less specific than the other two sources I've listed. The stuff in here on Dragons for example won't help you.

there is, also, the Children of the Night: Vampires accessory. But, I still preffer the Van Richtens' Guide to the Vampires.

CotN: Vampires is more a collection of unusual vampire NPCs, though, where VRG Vampires is more about general vampire qualities such as salient features.

Ahh I see,

I have been talking with my Players and they have all agreed that running a Campaign where they are all diffrent types of vampires/nosferatu would be fun, We are working on creating a World much like Raveloft though instead of Being Based on Evil its going to be based on Good with the Vampires becoming like Gods to the People of the Realm. Not nessacerily being worshipped. Becouse as I posted on another Forum I plan on having 5 major deities there as well.

Thank you all for the added information, I have created my own race of Vampires though everyone seems to have shown my my fatal flaws in the design. I also found one strain of Vampire online as well as on the WotC website that I found very interesting with its verient for Good Aligned Vampires. The name of the Race is "Mystaran Nosferatu" I find the 3rd Edition version a bit better then the 2nd Edition version.

Here is my website for it though I did these pages more for myself and my pCs to have faster access to the diffrent vampires I shall list it here for everyone to see.

Vampires of my Realm

Also we as being Vampires are going to run with the 3.5 DMG NPC classes as our character classes.

If anyone thinks this is a fullhardty plan please let me know.
