#2baron_the_curseDec 16, 2003 20:17:02 | I'm not even sure if it's out yet. The owner of one of my local gaming retaliers told me that his distributor doesn't even have it. |
#3DragonhelmDec 16, 2003 21:01:41 | Some people who ordered it through MargaretWeis.com have theirs already. |
#4baron_the_curseDec 17, 2003 22:31:26 | I hate that so much! Now I’m not sure if my local retailer is getting screw because Sovereign Press is holding back the release date so online buyers get it quicker, or my retailer has a crappy distributor. Well, I know for a fact his distributor sucks, but still I hate it when a company, however small they are, cut into the business of the people that are supporting them! Anyone remember Wizards of the Coast stores? All the ones down here in Miami closed down, I wonder if the whole store-line collapse. |
#5DragonhelmDec 17, 2003 23:09:30 | *grumble* Stupid boards ate my reply... *grumble* I don't think this is any plan on Sov. Press' part. They just got their shipment in house first, while distributors are still getting copies out there, during the Christmas season no less. I've heard that a number of WotC stores have shut down. That's a shame. I've never been to one, but I hope I can go someday. Too bad they don't have any in my area. |
#6themindDec 17, 2003 23:38:26 | As far as i know, the WoTc store in the Mall of America up here in Minneapolis is still open. In fact Ive been seeing comercials for it. So it must still be open. |
#7kalanthDec 18, 2003 11:34:50 | The Wizards Store in Arundel Mills in Maryland is still open as well. The store is ok, sadly enough they have almost no roleplaying stuff, and they don't sell magic cards. Kinda contradictory isn't it? |

#9zombiegleemaxDec 18, 2003 12:29:13 | Originally posted by Daedavias I've never been to a WotC store but if they are anything like The Game Keeper (which wizards also owns) they have lots of board games (RISK, Settlers of Catan, Monopoly, Chess, etc.), puzzles, HeroClix, and various other games. The Game Keeper in Salt Lake sells Magic though, plus they have a good selection of DnD stuff but only products from WotC. I remember going in there looking for AoM right after it came out and the guy just handed me the DLCS and said "This is the Age of Mortals" I tried to explain that there was another book but he hadn't heard of it. I was confused at the time and just thought the clerk didn't read upcoming product lists. When I came back a few weeks later (after buying AoM from another hobby store) I noticed all of their Sword & Sorcery and White Wolf Ravenloft products on the sale rack with a big 50% off sign and it made sense why the clerk was uninformed. |
#10baron_the_curseDec 18, 2003 12:52:56 | Originally posted by Thrackerzog That's pretty much Wizard of the Cost stores. All they sell is Hasbro board game products, warhammer, computer games, and DnD stuff from Hasbro. The employees all look professional and nicely uniform but don't know a thing about the hobby. |
#11zombiegleemaxDec 18, 2003 13:54:26 | Not so with the one near me in Northern Virginia. They're all gaming nerds, I can tell at a glance - not bothering to count the fact that I've known, through friends, a couple of former employees. But I agree that the stores are taking a disappointing turn. THe one near me has been having less and less D&D and Magic, and more and more generic Hasbro stuff. It's sad. The store used to be more than half comprised of gaming stuff, and is now around 25% gaming-related. Hopefully that'll change. But ironically, I don't buy my gaming stuff from them. There's a book store near my work I go to, and another gaming store (Eagle and Empire) near my house. But WotC is further away, and therefore a pain. |
