#1zombiegleemaxDec 18, 2003 11:01:33 | I'm going to play a Silvanesti Elf Wizard in our next Dragonlance campaign which hopefully begins next year. My question to you people is: How "high-and-mighty" and aloof are the Silvanesti Elves? Have any of you played one, and how did/do you play him/her? I have an idead about how I'm going to roleplay him, but it's actually the first Elf I've ever roleplayed. Any advice would be helpful. |
#2zombiegleemaxDec 18, 2003 11:05:56 | Which era? The Silvanesti are, in general, pretty uppity and better-than-thou. But in the 'current' time, post-WoS, I think they've got a lot less room for arrogance. At least, justified arrogance. |

#5lugnut71Dec 18, 2003 11:42:40 | Then your without a home so it does become harder to maintain the I'm better then you image. Still you would probably blame the other races for your problems and tend to think you are the chosen of the good gods. |
#6zombiegleemaxDec 19, 2003 12:36:30 | why even worry about how he is supposed to act? Elves are so long-lived, your character might be a throwback to their more blue-blooded days. Or he might have little confidence in his race after their downfall. Play him however *you* like! |

However I think in general they still hold their belief in the innate superiority of their race and culture, and very critical on the failings of the members of other races. I think they would have a tendency to assume that they complete a task better than their “lesser-race” companions, unless it is very obvious that someone else is far more skilled at a certain task, (I wouldn't expect even the most aloof Silvanesti Mage to assume that he could fight better than a Dwarven fighter, however he would probably argue over issues relating to arcane with almost anyone). |
#8zombiegleemaxDec 19, 2003 18:36:20 | why even worry about how he is supposed to act? The reason would probably be something along the lines of character. When most people are made (in real life as well), they will hold the same beliefs and attitudes of their families and friends. With a Silvanesti elf, these would all be Silvanesti elves. Since most of these elves are going to be horribly racist and 'superior' and so on, they'd pick up the fact that they were better than humans, dwarves, etc. It's only when presented with evidence to the contrary that someone will change their minds. So, if you're starting off as a low-level character, play up the aloof bit, but gradually become more and more accepting of the people who you 'should' think are less than you. Think of Gimli's and Legolas's stuff in LOTR. Dwarves and Elves have hated each other for millenia, and over the course of their adventure, they become very close. Gimli also has the bit where he asks for hair off Galadriel, since she's so beautiful. |

This Silvanesti Elf will start out as one heck of a pain in the neck, because he's very certain that people of his race could do stuff ten times better than any of the other characters. Then I'll downplay it as we go, when he sees that the Human Fighter is actually a capable warrior, and so on... |
