#2xlorepdarkhelm_dupDec 18, 2003 22:32:30 | athas.org Just read about 95% of the posts in this forum (or choose one randomly) and it's probably about the conversion. They have it updated to 3.5 edition rules actually. Due to my attempts to being more..... hospitable to people, I won't speak my mind about this, other than: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=149452 which is a thread where someone basically asked the exact same thing within a week of your post. And it's still on the first page of posts. or http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=286 which is the page people use to come to this forum (usually) and has the following quote: Dark Sun And if you followed that link, your question would have been answered without needing to post it. Have a nice day. Welcome to the Dark Sun forums. |
#3zombiegleemaxDec 18, 2003 23:15:49 | I'm gonna hafta ask for that back now, xlorepdarkhelm . . . and you were doing so well. While Athas.org is indeed doing an online only, completely free conversion (along with supplements, dark sun monster books, adventures, you know, the good stuff), if you were referring to they, meaning WOTC, doing a Dark Sun 3e, then the answer is no. There's not going to be any continuation of the Dark Sun setting except for two places: Athas.org, and an upcomming series of articles in Dragon Magazine by David Noonan. Hopefully xlorp hasn't scared you off, some of us here are a little more *ahem* even tempered about things. So, welcome aboard. There's plenty of discussion going on and the more ideas and opinions we got, the better (we're currently about 48% away from having a whole brain so, we could use a little infusion of grey matter . . . every little bit helps). |
#4jon_oracle_of_athasDec 19, 2003 3:41:04 | Compared to the old Xlorep, that was being nice. |
#5irdeggmanDec 19, 2003 4:35:31 | Its good to see that the valium is working.;) |
#6xlorepdarkhelm_dupDec 19, 2003 12:45:04 | I was trying to be nice. I wasn't trying to insult the original poster. |
#7zombiegleemaxDec 19, 2003 16:33:20 | Actually, my friend just received his latest issue of Dragon magazine, and in the "From the Editor" article it states that WOTC will be releasing the Dark Sun Campaign Setting 3.5 immediately following the revised Psionics Handbook, May of 2004. This actually says they are releasing an actual product, not just what Dragon is publishing in their magazine. The magazine material is supposed to be a preview of the product from what I can tell. |

#9zombiegleemaxDec 19, 2003 17:39:39 | Originally posted by Jihun-Nish I believe it is #315 as #316 does not ship to subscribers until January 2004. |

#11xlorepdarkhelm_dupDec 20, 2003 2:41:56 | It will be released though the magazine "Dragon" or "Dungeon" or something. From the looks of things, there most likely won't be information from the athas.org website, or from the work the .org team put into making it work for the last handful of years. Yay WotC. |
#12zombiegleemaxDec 20, 2003 2:48:37 | Umm so they are releasing real product now? That sorta came out of left field. Either its a kick in the teeth to everyone here or a reason to celebrate. I dont think I can decide which |
#13xlorepdarkhelm_dupDec 20, 2003 10:43:01 | There's already 4 other topics in these forums discussing this situation, your arguements and questions are both talked about, in detail, through these topics. Three of these were still on the front page of this very forum at the time of my posting, the other one was near the top of the 2nd page. Proposal Regarding Dragon/Dungeon and Athas.org New Dark Sun material in Dragon 315! Defiling in Dragon #315 Dark Sun 3.5, by David Noonan in Dragon and Dungeon? |
#14dawnstealerDec 20, 2003 12:06:32 | So... is 3.5 going to be released or not?!! :invasion: Kidding, Xlor. Kidding. |
#15zombiegleemaxDec 20, 2003 12:13:35 | YES it is... In Dragon Magazine #315 on page 6, it specifically states that the DarkSun Campaign setting will be released in May of 2004 in the 3.5 version... |
#16zombiegleemaxDec 20, 2003 17:13:20 | YES it is... In Dragon Magazine #315 on page 6, it specifically states that the DarkSun Campaign setting will be released in May of 2004 in the 3.5 version... Indeed, it will be released. See the relevant threads that Xlore has posted. It will come as either a series of articles in Dragon Magazine, or as a full fledged Dragon/Dungeon mag (and maybe Polyhedrion) blowout, similar the recent Incursion effort. It will NOT be released as a full in print series of core books, adventures, supplements, etc. Only articles in Dragon, Dungeon, Polywhatsit, and of course, Athas.org. |
#17zombiegleemaxDec 21, 2003 2:32:30 | Well if you ask me thats a whole lot different than releasing books and such. I suppose theres only so much damage that can be done by a single issue of dragon. I imagine the real hardcore fans (i.e. us) will still use athas.org as long as they are good enough to keep it going. |
#18zerpentorDec 21, 2003 2:57:38 | I for one love the work Athas.org has done and I have no reason to switch to the Dragon releases. my players love the DS 3.5 release that the atha.org has released and I am just amazed by the Terrors from the Deadlands and City-state of Draj releases too. as i see it the Dragon mag DS stuff is no threat at all and will most likely just be absorbed into the .org releases |
#19zombiegleemaxDec 21, 2003 5:44:37 | While I'm certainly not one to gripe about the work of Athas.org (or at least, not much anyway), I'm glad that David Noonan is working on the articles. It will provide those who don't like the Athas.org conversion (of which there are actually noteworthy amount) another option to explore beyond the crafting of their own personal conversion. As I've said before, I don't doubt that the articles will be of more than respectable quality, I still have this nagging in me that thinks they will wind up in a more generic or generalized fashion; more of a "how to use DS in your Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk campaign". Each to their own I guess, but I know full well that I'll cringe at the first mention of defiling Zhents or Mordenkainen as an avangion . . . |
#20zombiegleemaxJan 04, 2004 15:03:48 | It will be in Dragon and Dungeon mags. It will be done in a crossover thing like Incursion. That's how I understand it, at least. I, for one, will still use the Athas.org stuff for the most part. What I am hopin is that things will be in those magazines that Athas.org has not covered at all. |
#21zombiegleemaxJan 04, 2004 16:29:28 | don't pass judgement until both have a 3.5 out. |
