#1zombiegleemaxDec 20, 2003 21:17:34 | I came across "Leaves from the Inn of tht Last Home" in a comic book store. I have been looking for this for a while. I always wanted to try the famous "Otik's Spiced Potatoes." They are rather good. I would like to share this with the board. (If the moderators of the board don't like what I have done feel free to kill the post) Otik's Spiced Potatoes 1 Lb. potatos (any kind) 3 Tbls. butter 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped 1 to 2 dashes cayenne (a little goes a long way) Scrub potatoes, and remove any eyes. Chop into 1/2-inch cubes with skins. Melt butter in frying pan (traditionally an iron skillet), and heat until sizzling. Add cayenne to butter; stir. Place potatoes in butter and fry until crisp; stir occasionally. Add onion and fry 1 more minute. Serve hot, salt to taste. Enjoy!!! |

I have also made the "Fizban's Fireball Chili" of which I fed some to my cat, man I'd never seen a cat finish a bowl of milk so fast. Try throwing in a little crushed red pepper to really get a bang. I made these for my wife and she took a whole plate with to work (she works as a correction guard), when she came home that night she told me everyone wanted more. So for I have been making "Otik's Potatoes" for all the pot lucks and special occasion meals she has at work ever since. |
#3zombiegleemaxDec 20, 2003 23:18:06 | Awesome, I've been planing on takin the party to the IotLH for some time. I think I'll serve this as diner just to add to the RP experence. |
#4IllithidbixDec 21, 2003 9:50:59 | Anyone who can smell the Spiced Potato's (10's radius, or as much as the DM allows for diffusion) must make DC 15 Will save or suffer a -2 modifier to concentration checks. :D |
#5zombiegleemaxJan 14, 2004 11:52:44 | the pan bread is tasty as well. i made fizbans fireball chili once, it cleared out my sinuses. also, the cookies are delicious. |
#6carteegJan 14, 2004 16:29:09 | We actually had Otik's Spiced Potatoes for Thanksgiving -- along with the traditional whipped (or mashed, depending on how you'd like to say it). Loved it. Of course we put in about 5 or 6 dashes of cayene. Me and my wife are gluttons for punishment. By the way, where in Ansalon was Otik importing the cayene from? |
#7zombiegleemaxJan 16, 2004 1:21:15 | I love cooking, and I've even started my own Halfling Cookbook, and I've always wanted to get my hands on LotIotLH but I can't find it anywhere. So first off, thanx for the Spice Potatoes recipe, but does anyone at all know where to get a hold of the darn book? Is it out of print or something? |
#8talinthasJan 16, 2004 3:44:25 | not only out of print, but LONG out of print. good luck finding it anywhere =) btw, there were two printed, one in 87 and a corrected one in 93, so be aware of which you get. |
#9zombiegleemaxJan 16, 2004 7:31:10 | There was two printings of the First book!!!! Interesting... I know there is a MoreLftIotLH... Curious on what that has.... anyone know? |
#10brimstoneJan 16, 2004 9:09:29 | Back when Wizards still had a store, I was able to purchase Leaves as late as just a couple of years ago. So, perhaps SV Games now has it. Even if not...I'm sure www.hitpointe.com has it. |
#11jonesyJan 16, 2004 9:42:06 | I found my copy (along with a More Leaves) from the back corner of an rpg store at the bottom of a bin labeled "Old products, 75% off from all prices". Got a guide to Palanthas along with them for free. |
#12zombiegleemaxJan 19, 2004 21:31:04 | Thank you very much for the recipe. My Grandma has made them twice, and we all love them! They rule! |
#13ferratusJan 19, 2004 22:13:13 | Hey, if anybody is in a charitable mood, I'd like the recipe for "Draconian Soup". I used to have the recipe, but I misplaced it and I no longer have the book it was in. (Either More Leaves or History of Dragonlance). It used to be my favourite soup ever! |
#14zombiegleemaxJan 20, 2004 7:04:09 | Can anyone post a picture of the spiced potatoes? I've always been curious what a plate of them would look like. |
#15zombiegleemaxJan 20, 2004 7:28:04 | Just picture a plate of home fries (potatoes cut in 1/2" cubes), and you got them. What makes them diffrent that plan old home fries is the cayenne. |
#16zombiegleemaxJan 20, 2004 12:16:45 | Since it's out of print, is there any chance to find it in PDF format online or something??? Or should this thread just turn into a D&D recipe swap? I do have a few of my own Halfling recipes from a book I'm making; Ye olde Halfling Cookbook by Herb Tumbledink. |
#17brimstoneJan 20, 2004 12:36:57 | Originally posted by Mjordnir Dude...I just said above where you can find this this book (and More Leaves) new and in mint condition. You can trust the guys at that website...I've ordered many times from them without fail. |
#18zombiegleemaxJan 21, 2004 2:50:05 | yeah, I saw it, but I'm not a US resident, and I don't have any way of purchasing from that site.....although I could find about a million things I wanted from that site......darn it! |
#19zombiegleemaxJan 21, 2004 7:13:41 | E-Bay maybe a way to go, i got a couple of hits on the site. |
#20frostdawnJan 21, 2004 8:25:01 | hrmm, I have the recipes in front of me, but not sure if posting the draconian soup is a violation of one of the codes of conduct. Sorry Ferratus. If I get the ok, I'll post it though... (the soup's recipe is found in "More Leaves From the Inn of the Last Home". Otik's Spiced Potatoes recipe is in "Leaves from the Inn of the Last Home") |

#22brimstoneJan 21, 2004 9:25:42 | Originally posted by Mjordnir Dah! They won't ship overseas!?! That sucks! Wait...it says on their website they ship internationally. So, you can get the items! See, no worries. |
#23frostdawnJan 22, 2004 8:21:05 | Leaves and More Leaves are both good buys. I also recommend another paperback book, "The History of Dragonlance". It gives even more goodies, like more magic weapons and artifacts, a rough location of the isalnd of the Tarmaks via Ariakan's notes, more recipes, legends like what is rumored to have happened to Kitiara after she died (if you haven't read this, you might not guess this one, and no, it's not the grey) , etc. It's a little older (printed around '95 or so) so if you can get one, I recommend it. Pretty good read for getting ideas, and fleshing out little things here and there. Don't know if all the contents are considered canon or not, but who says a GM can't elaborate a little here and there? Good food for thought anyway... |
#24zombiegleemaxJan 22, 2004 10:08:24 | My father really loved the idea for the spiced potatoes, and came up with a variant recipe that's a little milder and has green bell pepper. I've been eating it since I was ten years old. It goes great with steak or pork chops! ** Jamie |

#26zombiegleemaxJan 22, 2004 23:24:34 | I bought the original printing of Leaves when it first came out. Does anyone have any latter printings? Are there any differences? |
#27talinthasJan 23, 2004 0:08:49 | there are some pretty significant differences between 87 and 93, namely in the corrections to the timeline and some other errata. |
