#1DragonhelmDec 23, 2003 22:27:02 | I'm passing along a little Christmas present from the good folks at Roaring Studios... |
#2bohicaDec 23, 2003 22:28:08 | Damn... that is sweeeeeeeeeet!! |
#3The_White_SorcererDec 23, 2003 22:32:20 | [eternal critic]What the heck is that silver dragon breathing? Lightning? Right...[/critic] Still, a pretty nice pic. |
#4DragonhelmDec 23, 2003 22:33:31 | Originally posted by The White Sorcerer He's using some wicked metamagic to create frost lightning! Yeah, that's it... ;) |
#5talinthasDec 23, 2003 23:43:08 | maybe the light is just reflecting off of the frozen beam the dragon is breathing =) You know, the cool complex crystaline structure makes for a shiny laser effect -=) |
#6ferratusDec 24, 2003 2:33:26 | Damn good picture. As for why the dragon isn't breathing a cone of frost, by my eye the position of the dragon's face would ensure that filling it out any more would obscure its head. I'm sure it broadens to a cone offscreen. ;) |
#7zombiegleemaxDec 24, 2003 3:33:29 | Originally posted by ferratus That's how I look at it. Great piece, btw. Only a few weeks 'til issue 1 hits the stands. |
#8sweetmeatsDec 24, 2003 6:57:26 | That is a truely gorgeous piece of art. Thats going on my desktop for a while. |
#9zombiegleemaxDec 24, 2003 7:14:35 | Well, I'm glad to see that they're using the old DL logo, rather than the 5th age one. The old one was way better. And a great picture too. How many of these are there going to be? |
#10silvanthalasDec 24, 2003 7:21:13 | Originally posted by pddisc Latest info seems to indicate a dozen issues. But, since comics are usually only done an issue or two in advance, the story could still be stretched to fit into much more than 12. |
#11zombiegleemaxDec 24, 2003 8:16:23 | Originally posted by silvanthalas Read an interview here with Sean Jordan for more info on the series and it's proposed length. :D As to what the dragon is breathing, this piece was done solely from memory by an art team that's been working on more mainstream comic stories for the better part of a decade and have not read any D&D books in an even longer time span. They did this piece solely from memory (and it was their first attempt at doing a DL image), so I think we can forgive them for not remembering that a silver dragon doesn't breath lightning...besides...it looks INCREDIBLE!:D |
#12zombiegleemaxDec 24, 2003 8:26:31 | Here's another great image for those who missed it. |
#13zombiegleemaxDec 24, 2003 8:31:05 | Awesome dragons. Awesome pictures. About the, err, lightning.... Option A. Dragon has a metamagic type of thing that can alter the breath weapon's shape, making the frost cone into a frost line! ;) Option B. Dragon has a sort of energy admixture feat for the breath weapon, making it both lightning and frost! Talk about vicious... Take your pick! :D Either way, it's an awesome pic. |
#14silvanthalasDec 24, 2003 11:21:08 | Originally posted by Mike Bullock Yeah, based on comments around the 'net, Ernst has indicated it could easily be more than 12. I hope it is in the end. For now though, until it's more official, I'll list it as 12 in the upcoming product listing and just change it as things progress. |
#15zombiegleemaxDec 24, 2003 12:07:22 | I'm in love with this pic :D |
#16zombiegleemaxDec 24, 2003 18:46:09 | :OMG! So happy |
#17DragonhelmDec 24, 2003 21:39:58 | Originally posted by pddisc The old one works better for the comic book format, so we got the okay from WotC and went with it. Craig - From what Sean Jordan says, this series could easily be 12-20 issues. He's not certain yet at this point. Now you know, though, why I debated that with you recently. I just couldn't say anything at the time! ;) Glad you like the pics, everyone! I look at them and am simply amazed. |
#18silvanthalasDec 24, 2003 22:37:05 | Originally posted by Dragonhelm No problem. Just trying to keep it all straight. |
#19zombiegleemaxDec 25, 2003 10:52:04 | Yeah, sweet pics... huma's dragon is always breathing the wrong breath weapon, first in the novel she is all like "oh, Huma. No one knew this but ALL dragons can breath fire if they want too.." Now she is pulling the old routine again... "oh, and by the way, I can breath lightning too...." |
#20DragonhelmDec 25, 2003 11:30:22 | It's frost lightning, I say! |
#21The_White_SorcererDec 25, 2003 19:57:02 | Just browsing my Draconomicon here (a great book, buy it if you haven't already). The dragon is using the Shape Breath metabreath feat. 'Nuff said. |
#22dragontoothDec 25, 2003 22:49:51 | Since minotaurs are technically the enemy (they are slaves to the orcs and forced to fight for Galan Dracos and the Dark Queen) ORCS?? WHAT THE HECK?? Someone needs to correct this person. BTW that was in the interview someone posted a link to earlier in the thread. |
#23DragonhelmDec 25, 2003 23:12:38 | Originally posted by Dragontooth Sean's had a lot on his plate lately and just got a little crosswired. He meant to say "ogre". I've spoken to him about it, and we're all good to go. |
#24The_White_SorcererDec 26, 2003 0:18:33 | It's such a common mistake. When people talk about orcs in Krynn (as in orcs that exist on Krynn) you should just automatically assume that they mean ogres. That's what I do. |
#25zombiegleemaxDec 26, 2003 11:10:17 | Love the artwork, can't wait. Maybe they will take other stories and tell them........... |
#26DragonhelmDec 26, 2003 13:33:25 | Originally posted by Cyrus If The Legend of Huma sells well, they just may! |
#27zombiegleemaxDec 28, 2003 9:31:05 | Originally posted by Cyrus We certainly hope to! :D |
#28zombiegleemaxDec 28, 2003 15:51:09 | Wow. The covers look beautiful. When is the first one being released? |
#29silvanthalasDec 28, 2003 16:13:07 | Originally posted by Gladius_Lucix IIRC, in only a couple of weeks now. |
#30DragonhelmDec 28, 2003 16:16:42 | I want to say it's somewhere around January 14 or so. |
#31zombiegleemaxDec 29, 2003 18:52:08 | Originally posted by Dragonhelm I believe you are right, good sir! :D |
#32zombiegleemaxDec 29, 2003 19:37:14 | Wow. That Red Dragon piece is phenomenal. Would make a good cover for a calendar. |
#33brimstoneJan 06, 2004 11:57:17 | I always wondered how the White/Silver Dragon's breath weapon would look in action. My old pictures I used to draw of dragon battles had their weapons kind of...well...weird...I could just never figure it out. Until Sword of the Kinslayer came out (Dragonlance Comic Vol. 31, 32, and 33 I believe). A White Dragon was the main adversary at the end of that story. And I thought they did an excellent job of showing a "Cone of Cold." And I've used that ever since. |
#34rath_the_rangerJan 07, 2004 14:13:27 | Originally posted by Apocalyp$e Actually, I spoke to Richard Knaak at a book signing last month (what a great guy btw) and if you look closely at the original cover (found towards the bottom left of this page <-- Click here) , that is a red dragon on there. It is explained away in the book that some of the fallen knights' lances were picked up by the forces of evil and used to their benefit, but they didn't work as well for the baddies since they didn't have the same kind of faith in the lances. So, it's not Huma and his Silver Dragon on the original cover (or the reprint of the same cover from more recent times). There will be a NEW cover that looks like this (click here) which comes out this month (course, the dragon looks a little black to me in that pic). |
#35brimstoneJan 07, 2004 14:33:15 | Originally posted by Rath the Ranger Yeah...but that's not what he's talking about, I don't think. There is a scene at the end of the book where Gwyneth kills Galen Dracos (or that other guy...can't remember which one)...anyway, she breathes fire, and explains it to Huma that all dragons can breathe fire, except for the cowardly White dragons. Of course now I guess there is a feat that allows dragons to do that in the Draconomicon...so maybe LoH was just ahead for its time. ;) |
#36DragonhelmJan 07, 2004 18:28:58 | Originally posted by Brimstone It was Crynus that became "extra crispy". ;) As for the feat, I think we discovered that it wasn't in the Draconomicon after all. I can't remember for certain. |
#37rath_the_rangerJan 08, 2004 8:16:35 | Originally posted by Brimstone Oops, my bad, I thought he was talking about the cover. Now that I read his post more closely, I know what he's talking about, sorry Paco. Course, I just re-read LoH and should have totally understood what scene he was talking about. DUUUHHHHHH (at me :D ) |
#38rath_the_rangerJan 08, 2004 8:16:43 | Sorry, double post |
