I have yet to see a Dragonlance artwork by Elmore that was not a portrayal of an iconic Dragonlance character. Therefore, I am leaning towards the theory that the black robe mage with the Dragon Orb in the cover of the DM Screen is going to be a future character. Then again, perhaps not, I only hope so. She seems cool, and mages are great antagonist.

The booklet itself seems a little light on material, but that is made-up for in the DM Resources (Monsters) segment. Detailing the role Core Monsters play in the Dragonlance Setting is an unexpected nice touch. I am so glad races like the djinn and half-fiends/celestials have an official niche in Krynn. I would have liked to have seen generic Knights of Takhisis (Neraka) in the NPC section, like it was done for the Solamnics. I could have also done with less NPCs, but overall, not a bad investment.

Personally, my favorite part of the entire screen was the high gloss finish that the entire thing recieved. None of my other DM screens (2nd Ed D&D, Star Wars d20, Classic Marvel Super Heroes, and 3.0 D&D) have this feature. I think this will be the longest lasting screen I have ever seen. After all, the old 2nd ed screen I have needs 'assembly' now a-days.

You know, while the artwork and high gloss finish is nice and all, you got me thinking on the Tales of the Lance DM Screen. And looking at it now I have to say this new screen doesn’t hold a candle to it. The Tales of the Lance screen is just filled with an abundance of useful information the new one lacks. I think the new one could have use a forth panel.

I believe the gloss allows you to use a dry-erase marker for the moon tracking chart. I'm not 100% certain on that, but I believe that's the intention.

That's fine and dandy, but can I use crayons on it??

Yes, I liked it, but you know what we all really want… the Bestiary of Krynn… our precious… give it to us...

Yeah. I recently gave a review of the DM screen on the newsgroup and on the mailing list. in my opinion, the Tales of the Lance DM screen has everything, even the equipment prices set to steel pieces rather than gold.

But then, I also think the DLCS DM's screen we have now couldn't be anything else than what it is now. Would WotC want to have a 3rd party DM's screen that could rival it's own product? Can the DLCS DM's screen have stuff from the PHB without violating its licience with WotC?

I won't continue to show my grief toward WotC and 3E/d20 on this thread , but, regardless, the DL DM Screen should have everything needed.

You shouldn't have to buy another one that's only half-useful.

I already use my DM's screen from Dragon Magazine, and while I like the info that is on it, I don't really need it right at the table.

Will the information about monsters and their niches be reprinted in the Beastiary?

Well, the Scarred Lands DM Screen is filled with charts from the Core Books. It's by far a better DM Screen, I would say even to the official WotC one.
