#1GrummoreDec 29, 2003 22:25:22 | How about doing a update of the currents stuffs going on at athas.org with a small message on the web site? We like update, we like going to the official web site and seeing a lifesign ! Give us more information on the projects developpement. No date, just progress information, the vision... I dont know, it's a new year! What's going to happen at athas.org this year!? |
#2nytcrawlrDec 29, 2003 22:27:52 | I second that. :D |
#3GrummoreDec 29, 2003 22:32:35 | Peoples ! It's very important to have an active site, it keep the fan interested and their creativity on. Right now, with Scott Stoeker (web site on balic), I am the only one that offer regular update. I know it's not great things, but small things is better than nothing, we like to have update! GIVE US MORE UPDATE !!!!! :bounce: |
#4zombiegleemaxDec 30, 2003 1:45:23 | :pile: Up Date Band WagonI am the only one that offer regular update. Ugh! I won't even touch my site again till I get the dang thing out of geocities evil clutches. Its enough that I at least keep the links that they keep breaking updated, not to mention the multiple file deletions . . . *brain spasms at the very thought* |
#5xlorepdarkhelm_dupDec 30, 2003 11:40:52 | My site will be complete when I meet the following requirements: 1. I get my Static IP back from the clutches of my DSL provider, which decided, in their infinite wisdom that they did not need to pay any attention to their contract with me when I was transferred to them from my previous provider. I was to have the exact same service for the exact same price, the only differences being that I'd use the new company's gateway, have one of their IP's assigned to me, and I'd be paying them, rather than my previous provider. However my new peovider seems convinced that I didn't deserve a Static IP for that price, and want to tack on another $30 per month for me to get the service I had before. Anyone know of a good DSL provider with decent rates, high reliability and the option for a Static IP that's not gonna cost very much more (like not double the bill or more) per month? And don't suggest Cable - Cable providers (at least in my area) have banned normal customers from having servers connected to their network, unless I want to cough up $50 for the static IP + $100 for each server connected to their network per month. I don't play that game. 2. I get my domain name back. That's just an easy $10.00, but I'm waiing until I get a static IP, no reason to pay for a Domain Name if I can't use it right now. 3. I complete my crash-course through Apache2 (last time I used Apache1) Webserver configuration, Re-config MySQL, and power up PHP with all my goodies to get the backbone for my site up and running. 4. Set up phpWebSite (I'm lazy and don't wanna write it all from scratch again) Once those are done, I'll have my site up and going, which has been shut down for almost 3 years now. Yay... |
#6nytcrawlrDec 30, 2003 14:22:35 | I'm currently working on switching back to an older version of my site and cleaning that up some. It should be alot more simple this time around on the navigation, at least Grummore thought so. ;) Although, looking at phpwebsite, I might eventually switch to that from Nuke since it seems to handle things better than nuke can, hmmm. Thanks Xlorep. That should be done around the month of Jan sometime, then after that and finishing up ToA I can get more updates to the site on a regular basis. Until then, the last update I did a week ago will be the final update to the current version of the site. |
#7xlorepdarkhelm_dupDec 30, 2003 15:04:29 | Originally posted by NytCrawlr No problem. I'm an avid supporter of the OpenSource community, and products like phpWebSite are nice OpenSource applications that make it all worth while. I've also been toying with SquirrelMail and phpBB2 for my server, since I like the flexability of a webmail program (but hate the commercial webmail services like yahoo, hotmail, etc.), and SquirrelMail is a nice webmail program I can throw on my server. phpBB2 also is gonna make life easier for me, as I like having message forums, and it's pretty robust. Plus doesn't have that $$$ requirement that vB does. My roommate's getting a kick out of the server, which is a Pentium-MMX system (233MHz, I believe) with umm.... 96MB RAM, a 10/100MBit NIC, and 120GB storage space. I'm dinking around with Samba on it (it runs on Gentoo Linux 1.4), trying to get a Windows PDC/WINS server and a useful fileserver for my home network up and running (I'm about 95% complete on that), so I can keep better control over some of the things my friends/roommate do on their computers which result in viruses I have to remove (almost continuously), or other really annoying things. They hate my password requirement on the systems now, but they'll get over it. However they all have accounts that can access their home directories on the server through their computers' "My Network Places"; my roommate even went so far as to have it set up as a permanent Mapped Network Drive on his computer, and uses it for extra storage all around. Ok, I'll turn off computer geek mode now, as my experience is that people who don't understand it, almost consider it some sort of personal insult when I start talking in computer-ese. |

#9jon_oracle_of_athasDec 31, 2003 6:12:55 | Athas Online will be resurrected once I get a decent domain + hosting deal, and some extra time on my hands. |
#10xlorepdarkhelm_dupDec 31, 2003 8:16:58 | I might be able to host you, Jon. I just gotta get my static IP going. I'm thinking about switching to *shudders* Bellsouth DSL. They've got the best upload/download speed + static IP for the cheapest price I've seen in my area so far. I'll let you know one way or another. |
#11GrummoreDec 31, 2003 11:49:01 | XDH, do you really need a static IP ? It's only use is for secure transaction (https) why would you need one? (curiosity) |
#12GrummoreDec 31, 2003 11:52:20 | XDH, do you really need a static IP ? It's only use is for secure transaction (https) why would you need one? (curiosity) |
#13xlorepdarkhelm_dupDec 31, 2003 21:21:02 | Static IP's have more uses than just for https (which I do plan on using anyway, as I am building up to working for myself, and https is soooo handy for buisness transactions). I've got my server set up as a DNS server, and it kinda needs a static IP I have my server up and about 95% completed now (just need to get phpWebSite, phpBB2, sendmail and SquirrelMail operational, and I'll be GTG). I direct everything through my firewall (a 486 + 2 NIC's) which leads to my switch (4-port 10/100 MBit switch - which has run out of open ports - time to get another switch and possibly a WiFi 802.11g Network hub for my living room). I've got another Pentium computer I'm thinking about setting up as a SDC for my SMB network (Windows Networking), and possibly to split up some of the tasks that my current server is handling. My roommate's actually getting scared seeing me piece these things together (spit & bailing-wire style), getting them set up, and integrating them into the network. Of course, my dream server setup is one of these with twenty-four of these. I could set up about 8 of them as independent servers, and then cluster the other 16 together to be the equivalent of a supercomputer, which would just be fun to do, as I really can't justify why I'd need a supercomputer in my apartment. RLX ServerBlades are da bomb for compact servers, especially when combined with Transmeta's processors. Of course, it's also a bit pricey... |
#14zombiegleemaxJan 01, 2004 4:52:51 | At 1k per blade . . . . saying its a bit pricey is a big understatement, and you want how many? |
#15xlorepdarkhelm_dupJan 01, 2004 8:23:54 | Enough to fill the Chassis. It's a dream, is all. The manufacturer (RLX) sells to buisnesses, and buisnesses rip each other off much more than they ever think about ripping a "normal" customer off. It's an unfortunate side-effect I have to deal with when looking at buisness-type products. Ever see how much SDSL, T1 or T3 lines cost? Or even how much more a SCSI Hard Drive costs over its EIDE counterpart? |
#16zombiegleemaxJan 01, 2004 21:16:31 | Well guys? Whats the status on the epic DS rules at least then, and hence, the status of Dregoth Ascending (I know, DA will be out when the epic rules are finished, but then, how are the epic rules comming along?). |
#17flipJan 02, 2004 10:53:32 | Originally posted by Grummore Status is that my (annual, compulsive?) reorg is in the works, and will hopefully make things more accessable. I'm also trying to look into some decent (non-slashdot style) CMS stuff. Once I get the technical jittering out of my system, there are some things I need to finish writing. As for products ... I think we're pretty close on a PrC document. But, of course, I've had one disaster after another for the last three months, so ... Nothing truly serious, but always enough |
#18gabJan 02, 2004 11:38:40 | Guess I'll post an update on Terrors of Athas: The doc is currently 187 pages, imageless, single-column format. We've got almost everything converted, just a couple more to do, and basic revisions are done. There are about 200 monsters in the doc. So maybe in a couple of weeks, the preview, imageless PDF will be out. Again, maybe... I tend to underestimate the time it takes to finish products, so take my estimate as you want. |
#19nytcrawlrJan 02, 2004 14:11:27 | I'm coming along on the conversions and the examples, so hopefully your prediction will be correct. |
#20dawnstealerJan 02, 2004 14:16:48 | Coming along with images, so maybe that "imageless" can be removed. Got a deadline for me? I can finish roughly 1-3 a day depending on the nature of the critter and how hard it is to draw (and how bad Baxa screwed the original). |
#21gabJan 02, 2004 14:22:04 | At 3/day, that's still more than 2 months to do everything. I'd prefer to get an imagless version out, get people to spot the errors (as well as including the monsters in their games earlier), and then put out a good quality, image-full product. So that probably leads to the end of February... |
#22zombiegleemaxJan 02, 2004 16:58:29 | Compromise- Concentrate on quality and get it out when you feel it is ready. In the mean time- sneak us a few criiters. I am most curious about the T'chowb. I want to use it soon in my writings and find myself second guessing myself on its stats. Anything would be good of course. |

#24zombiegleemaxJan 02, 2004 20:17:17 | Thankyou...oh my...Dune Reapers....ouch Did I read that right?!? 4 claw attacks! That'll cut most anyone down to size at CR level 6! |
#25dawnstealerJan 02, 2004 20:31:16 | Indeed. Nyt did a phenomenal job with the monsters of DS and I've been using them for a good portion of my adventures since. Too bad you burned out, guy, buy I know where you're coming from. Gab et al, release at will and I'll shoot the pics to you as soon as possible. Gab, I shot you three (?) already, I think, and I believe Neeva has 9-12 of the new ones. Let me know if they did not arrive or if I need to do something else to get them through. Just in case it looks like spam, my email address is tticd. [edit:] ...and I always thought that Baxa's rendition of the T'Chowb looked something like a menacing magical munchkin with wings. I'm looking forward to taking a stab at it. |
#26zombiegleemaxJan 02, 2004 20:36:13 | Did a drawing of one last night fighting a 1/2 Giant. It has been tooooo long since I picked up a pencil to draw. |
#27nytcrawlrJan 02, 2004 20:54:52 | Originally posted by Dawnstealer Actually, I'm back, been back for a few weeks now. Though athas.org may say otherwise. Only thing that has changed is not being a part of the Senate, which I don't really miss. Gab et al, release at will and I'll shoot the pics to you as soon as possible. Gab, I shot you three (?) already, I think, and I believe Neeva has 9-12 of the new ones. Let me know if they did not arrive or if I need to do something else to get them through. I wish I could remember Mike Fleming's old nick, oh well, I thought it was you Dawnstealer, but I think I'm wrong. Anyways, he did a lot of monster art for me, along with some generic DS art. I've got it broken up into two zip files and will clean it up some and get it sent off tonight. Both are 4 megs + and on a dialup that is going to take awhile, so I want to go through and get rid of all the duplicates and such and clean it up some. [edit:] ...and I always thought that Baxa's rendition of the T'Chowb looked something like a menacing magical munchkin with wings. I'm looking forward to taking a stab at it. We represent the lollipop kids...or something like that, heh. |
#28dawnstealerJan 02, 2004 21:14:57 | Nope, Nyt, you were right the first time: it's me. I was just on sabbatical while my computer got fixed. Same artist. Maybe I should just toss the pics to you? |
#29nytcrawlrJan 02, 2004 21:17:58 | Originally posted by Dawnstealer Depends on your connection, if it's faster than dialup then throw them at Gab for me. If you happen to have everything you did, which was some general DS3 images as well, then throw the general stuff to flip and neeva and the monster stuff to gab. Thanks either way. Glad we got that cleared up too, hehe. |
#30dawnstealerJan 02, 2004 21:27:52 | Of course, I could be a menacing magical munchin trying to fool you so that I can eat your brain, so you might want to check out my web site; got a lot of those pics there. More on the way, but damn geocities doesn't allow for much. Time to get a real web page on a real server. |
#31nytcrawlrJan 02, 2004 21:35:04 | Addy? |
#32zombiegleemaxJan 02, 2004 21:51:38 | Of course, I could be a menacing magical munchin trying to fool you so that I can eat your brain, so you might want to check out my web site; I had a link that let me eat people's brains on this board. Over 80 people nabbed in only a month's time . . . no wonder we all drool a little and stare out blankly into space at times. |
#33dawnstealerJan 03, 2004 0:44:09 | Um....NO! That's not it! Heh, heh. I don't eat people's brains: I was joking! HA! Kidding! Um... it's here and in my profile. Honestly, doesn't anyone read these profiles anymore? I'm hurt. I'm going to cry myself to sleep in my bathtub. ...now where did I put those damn bath beads?? |
#34nytcrawlrJan 03, 2004 10:37:27 | Originally posted by Dawnstealer I try to, here lately I've been lazy though. It's cotton candy time! |
#35GrummoreFeb 17, 2004 12:33:08 | Since I was too lasy to write another thread, again, if you read the first messages written in this thread, I think, well again it's the silly frog who ask... what's the status of athas.org on is current projects (ToA, PrC, web site), as anything new been started, etc. etc. I dont think having a small news, once per month is heavy, just at least saying that you still alive I am serious. It keep the attention on us, the DS community. There are peoples that dont come on the Board. Maybe these find that there isnt much happening at athas.org... Try to be interactive a bit more. :bounce: <---------- Like that ! :D |
#36nytcrawlrFeb 17, 2004 13:53:48 | Originally posted by Grummore I expect ToA out very soon, like by the begining of March if even that long. Take that with salt and I'm stamping that as an unofficial answer so Gab, et al won't come hunt me down and torture me. |
#37gabFeb 18, 2004 6:44:54 | Yup, ToA will be out very soon. All conversions are done, layout is done, just checking for OGC in the text. |
#38GrummoreFeb 18, 2004 9:50:16 | Originally posted by Gab Now, THAT'S a pleasant news. Since you should not keep the bureaux without doing anything, what will be your next task? Or next project(S) ? |
#39zombiegleemaxFeb 18, 2004 10:22:52 | Will the ToA have Pics (thanks Dawnstealer!!!!) or will it be imageless at first? |
#40GrummoreFeb 18, 2004 11:24:13 | Originally posted by Sean Dickson I'm not official, but I am sure, since dawnstealer asnt finished the pictures yet (there much, MUCH to do), it will first be release as a imageless pdf. Btw, there is a thread about Flip and athas.org looking for drawers, why dont you join if you know how to draw and go help dawnS. ? |
#41nytcrawlrFeb 18, 2004 13:52:35 | Another salt filled unofficial answer: Will probably imageless first going by precedence established by the core rules. Then an image version once we get through errata and all that that we missed. As far as what is next with the monster bureau, I know Gab is going to tackle TotDL for 3.5, then I'm not sure what is next for the bureau other than epic monsters or something like that. |
#42dawnstealerFeb 18, 2004 14:50:27 | Pretty sure it's stated somewhere (maybe under "New Web Page" thread?) that v1.0 would not have images - just the critters. I'm guessing I'm somewhere about 1/3 of the way through the critters. Considering that some of the critters will be rolled onto one drawing (think antloids), that number might be closer to 1/2. I'm taking a short (one week) break to fill out a couple of small projects people have asked of me, then it's back to busting out critter sketches. Ideally, I'd have it (the critter drawings) finished in the beginning of March. Realistically, it will probably be closer to mid April. |
#43GrummoreFeb 21, 2004 23:12:15 | Originally posted by Dawnstealer Hum... Does Neeva still active? Is there only Dawnstealer that is drawing for athas.org right now or is there more drawers working on the monsters pdf? |
#44KamelionFeb 22, 2004 3:01:06 | There's an artist in my gaming group who is keen to contribute - I bounced some of his art to Flip and Neeva. Just waiting to see if they want more... |
