I'm not sure if this goes into the RPG section or novel section, but I'm putting it here since I plan on using him.
If you've read the Dalamar book Tramd is a rival of Dalamar's with a unique concept and I'm looking towards how that translates into the game. Tramd has a broken body and seems to create vessals for possesion. My question is - are these vessals special golems? Special creations of his? Or what? They seem to turn to dust when dead. But need rest and sustenace. He can also posses them at will. Is it a possible magical item that allows him to do so? Or just a high lvl spell? The "at will" part makes me seem to think it's an item.
Looking for you thoughts and input on him before I start creating him.

My guess is that he is using the simacrilum spell. It has game effects similar to what you are talking about.

I looked at that spell, and it's similar but not it. To compare it, Similicrum(SP?) creates a copy of yourself but at only half your level and you can control it as an independent being. Where Tramd seems to tranfer his conscieness into the vessal he creates. He also seems to have fullpower while in this body. Another thing is Tramd seems to have different guises. Sometimes as a human or dwarf.

Perhaps he's created an improved Similicrum and uses an alterself spell to give the appearance of life in the body.

Thanks for the thought.

there used to be a spell called "magic jar", which allowed the caster to posses others by putting their spirit/soul into a created item and moving the caster's into their body. I haven't looked at the 3e spells in a while, so I don't know if it still exists, but I am almost positive that would be the spell he used, but on a simulacrum body.
