#1zombiegleemaxJan 02, 2004 17:15:33 | My players and I have decided to return to the original greyhawk world after a long time of Dragonlance gaming. We have recently been bombardet with Greyhawk stuff (Scourge of Worlds DVD, D&D Heroes - Xbox, and Temple of Elemental Evil - PC) and I remembered that back in the good old days when I started playing D&D and AD&D I had a map that came with the game. I believe it was Greyhawk. I remember a town called Thunderift or something and I was searching the net for maps (old and new) of Greyhawk, but all I can find is this Living Greyhawk stuff. I don't want to buy the LGG as it is as far from what I want as possible. The Core books (PHB, DMG, MM) use Greyhawk as their foundation (Gods etc.) so I don't understand why it has to be so much trouble to find a map as well. If anyone has a map of Greyhawk on file, could you please direct em to it, or to a place where I can get one. And I repeat, I have NO intention of buying the LGG. |
#2zombiegleemaxJan 02, 2004 18:32:30 | So I can't have Greyhawk to myself after all, Eylwn? :D It's okay, but I certainly mean to get the LGG to get the whole thing just a little bit up to date and give people a little wider range of choices concerning their choice of deity, and of course to get some more background information. I'm well aware that much of that information can be found in older books, but since I haven't roamed around much in Flanaess myself, I'll have to do with whatever 3.0 stuff, I can find. As for a suitable map, I haven't come across a really good one that would be fit for printing, but there has to be one out there somewhere. |

#4zombiegleemaxJan 02, 2004 20:03:45 | Sheesh, don't be such a cheapskate and buy the LGG. It has a poster sized, colour map of the Flanaess and it's like, $10 in the US these days. |
#5mortez2000Jan 02, 2004 20:05:22 | YES! Greyhawk!!!!:D DL is fine, but the good old tried and tested is just as good........ You just made me a happy man Eylwn |
#6zombiegleemaxJan 02, 2004 20:21:10 | Don't be too hard on him, Delglath. D&D material isn't exactly the easiest thing to get a hold of this side of the Atlantic Ocean. But I agree with you, in that if he wants to run a Greyhawk campaign as historically correct, as he runs Dragonlance campaigns, he might want to see, if he can get it somewhere. |
#7zombiegleemaxJan 03, 2004 0:59:57 | Here is a map of the Flanaess circa 576. It is huge, so be patient. It also has two glaring omissions. The area south of the Mikar River in the Great Kingdom would be the See of Medegia. The area around the Harp River in between the Great Kingdom and Nyrond would be the buffer nation of Almor. Flanaess Circa 576 C.Y. Hope this helps. Sodabob's cite also has smaller regional maps and maps from after the wars circa 591 C.Y. |
#8ArgonJan 03, 2004 1:19:06 | Well I don't play 3rd edition stuff but the LGG is a good pickup for gamer's of all editions. With that said another useful website I've come across is bastardgreyhawkisonfire.com. Go ahead and check it out! |

#10Brom_BlackforgeJan 05, 2004 10:14:35 | It wasn't clear to me whether you were asking about maps of the world of Greyhawk or the city of Greyhawk itself. If you want a map of the city, then this one is probably the best: Maldin's Greyhawk |
#11zombiegleemaxJan 05, 2004 11:58:30 | Originally posted by Brom Blackforge That is a fine map. It makes Greyhawk look like a bustling metropolis - the way it should be! The School of Psionics is intriguing. The web page mentions locations from Maldin's campaign and an RPGA series. I wonder what they are? |
#12Brom_BlackforgeJan 05, 2004 12:09:40 | Originally posted by Grugach I don't know whether this will answer your question, but I'll tell you what I know (and hope that someone more knowledgeable chimes in to fill in the gaps). The map appeared in poster form in issue #2 of the Living Greyhawk Journal (which, at that time, was published as a separate magazine, instead of appearing in Dungeon, as it does now), and that issue included write-ups about many of the locations on the map. Further locations were supposed to appear in a subsequent issue, but I'm not sure whether they ever did. Also, as far as I know, the numbering is consistent with the location numbering found in the 1998(?) product "The Adventure Begins." |
#13zombiegleemaxJan 05, 2004 12:20:36 | Thanks for the info, Brom! Here's hoping that Greyhawk City gets detailed again in the LGJ. |
#14zombiegleemaxJan 05, 2004 12:34:58 | Definitely buy the LGG. The information given in the Core books regarding the Greyhawk Gods is simply sad. The map and setting information given in the LGG makes it well worth the buy. Or check out Canonfire. I find Eric Anondson's maps to be particularly useful. |
#15Brom_BlackforgeJan 05, 2004 12:59:34 | Originally posted by Brom Blackforge I just happened upon the LGJ Index posted on Canonfire, and according to that, the second part of the write-up was included in LGJ #4. |
