This is my first time posting on this board. I am Istirith. I started playing D&D with 3E but I bought a couple of old Dark Sun adventures a while back and really liked them. I was glad to see a Dark Sun article in this month's issue of Dragon. I checkech out Athas.org and found out that they had 3.5 conversion of Dark Sun. It's great. I also read in Dragon that they will be teamed up with Dungeon to re-print the Dark Sun setting in May. So here is my question: Will this (being what will be printed in Dungeon and Dragon) be the same thing found on Athas.org?? Or will it be something different?

Firstly, welcome aboard.

Secondlyish, the answer is no, The Dungeon/Dragon articles will be different from what Athas.org already has. Which is good and bad. Good for them since no one will go and buy what they can already get for free if they simply reprint what Athas.org has done. Also great for those who don't like the Athas.org conversion since it will give them a second option to explore. Bad though because there's a chance that Athas.org, which has worked very hard for a few years on this conversion will likely not receive anything more than honorable mention if anything, even though they were given the titled role of being the Official producers of Dark Sun material.

I see. Thank you. I will give the Dungeon and Dragon stuff a look when it comes out. I will probably use the stuff in there that Athas.org has not fleshed out. Otherwise I think that the Athas.org stuff will most likely be better, if for no other reason than more time has been spent on it.

Welcome

I look forward to the Dragon books but to be honest will weigh each against the other. What I like most about Dragon/Dungeon is the EXPOSURE of the game world.

I wonder what exactly Dragon will have in there?

I am guessing races, classes and equipment. Rule suggestions for heat exposure, item breakage and survival. A bit of history would be nice.

I figure Dungeon will have info on at least one city and it's templars, arena combat and some critters.

Just a guess.

All in all, this is the best thing out of the whole deal IMO.

DS definately needs the PR and hopefully it will come back to the life it once had in the early to mid 90s.

Well, all of these old threads are certainly going through a rebirth, that's for sure... :P

The link to athas.org in Dragon #339 doesn't hurt for publicity.

It should also put the lid on the discussion that the athas.org conversion isn't official or equally official, since Paizo uses the same authors as athas.org and states that athas.org is the official DS site.

sometimes questions are asked without the right answers Kam. We bring these things up to explore more opportunities to expand our knowledge and our world. you never know, fresh minds bring fresh ideas. old ideas bring fresh minds. Scott

As am I my friend. I want to expand Athas in every way, too many people chit chat instead of giving honest interprestations or fresh ideas. I am trying to flesh out Athas more and more everyday. I have my kids and nieces and Nephews playing now. my three year old daughter wants to play hahaha
