Im looking at playing an UA Minotaur warrior. Should I go Monk or do you DL folks have any other suggestions?

Also do you guys have any thoughts on the OA Monk PrC's and feats?

Im not looking to be the most powerful just a surviable UA Melee Horned god of War,muhahahaha.

Ive always liked the thought of the tatooed Monk from OA myself. I also like the 3 lvls of racial Minotaur that Dragonhelm made so Ill prolly use those before going into the monk class.

Give me your thoughts please. My stats will be something like this aa a lvl 1 Monk (lvl 4 charachter):
str 24
dex 14
con 18
wis 18
int 12
cha 10

Natural armor 3, horn attack

How did you roll your stats?

hehe, we roll 3d6 and reroll the 1's and the lowest roll made (so essentially 4d6 rerolling the 1's)

Then as a Minotaur with 3 racial lvls he gets a +6 to str and +2 con, He also gets an extra to NA and the scent feat.

Minotaurs using the racial lvls are just what they should be. A beast in a beasts form.

The saying is "Strong as a bull" for a reason!

Why?

(Be imaginative in your answers. What might I mean?)

well, in that case i think you should go with the fighter class, with the extra feats available, i would get the unarmed strike, and eventually the improved unarmed stike, i would also invest in improved disarm, giving your DM the double handed disarm rules found in the sword and fist book, which also has some useful feats for bare knuckle fighters. another feat that might be useful from time to time would be improved trip allowing you to get a free attack on your tripped opponent and helps out your party as well. (incedently if you ever manage to get into melee angainst a mage, improved trip is very devestating)

There is no feat called Unarmed Strike.

I'd say go for the monk!

There are a few considerations to be made. I'll assume you're playing a monk, since for a high-STR, high-CON character they tend to be the most devastating in melees.

First, your alignment. DragonLance in the Age of Despair is low-magic, making Vow of Poverty monks extremely effective. Age of Mortals settings have more available magic, and therefore VoP builds are less attractive. If you're not going to be good, then obviously you can forget all this. You don't have the CHA anyway, so I suppose this is moot unless you rearrange stats to have at least a 15 CHA.

Second, your race. Monk is a poor class for a high-ECL race, as most of its benefits are level-dependent. I would suggest using the standard DLCS minotaur if you're going to play a Monk. If anything, try and modify the Savage Species HalfOgre into a larger version of the Minotaur.

...

Minotaur VoP Monk
1 Sacred Vow, Imp Unarmed*, Stunning Attack*
2 Combat Reflexes*
3 Vow of Poverty
4 Nymph's Kiss*
6 Expert Tactician, Imp Trip*, Sanctified Natural Attack*
8 Touch of Golden Ice*
9 Improved Natural Attack (Monster Manual)
10 Sanctified Ki Strike*
12 Ability Focus (Stunning Attack) (Monster Manual), Holy Ki Strike*
14 Exalted Spell Resistance*
15 Rapid Stunning
16 Exalted Stun (not sure about the name of this - gives +2 Stun DC vs Evil)*
18 Weapon Focus (unarmed), ???*

Minotaur Monk (non-VoP)
1 Ability Focus (Stunning Attack), Imp Unarmed*, Stunning Attack*
2 Combat Reflexes*
3 Expert Tactician
6 Improved Natural Attack, Imp Trip*
9 Rapid Stunning
12 Pain Touch
15 Weapon Focus (unarmed)
18 Improved Initiative (for Epic - Dire Charge)

...

A couple of things to note:

Tattooed Monk is, generally speaking, a really, really lousy PrC. The feat requirements mean that you're getting 1 useless feat (Endurance) (and you should probably consider Imp Grapple as useless too, given the inherent problems with grappling in addition to the fact that you're most likely giving up access to Stun Attack to get it). The Spell Resistance offered by the Phoenix tattoo can't compare to Monk levels at higher levels (15+). The levels don't stack to determine Monk flurry. The abilities offered are good, but not worth the price. If anything, take it for 1 level to get the Unicorn tattoo, but note that there is a Wondrous magic item in the Miniatures Handbook (worth 8k gp) that gives 1 reroll per day on saving throws, which is the main reason to get the Unicord tattoo anyway.

Monks do not have off-hand attacks. They also add full STR to all unarmed attacks. Therefore you should have a really good case to tell your GM that your Minotaur headbutt (secondary attack, at -5 BAB) executes at full STR (rather than half). Forget about Multiattack, it stinks compared to other feats. You might be able to convince your GM that its damage should scale with your Monk unarmed as well.

...

I'm working on a Monk PrC for minotaurs. I'll post it somewhere when I'm done.

Very cool, thanks ML

I don't think Ill beusing the VoP mostly due to Role playing. I just don't think I can behave as an EXALTED Minotaur should, hehe.
