I've started to creat the charakters with my friends who totaly unfamiliar with Dark Sun. One guy picked up a ranger, one a gladiator and one a cleric. Then he suddently asked me what ascpects do the domains represent? In the PHB the domains explains themselves good, evil, chaos, death, travel, and so on... but DS3 domains have strange names and it's hard to say wich aspect of the element it represents or don't they represent anything and are just names to have own domains for DS3? |

Don't confuse the Athasian cleric with the PHB one, they don't follow gods, remember. I tend to look at the name of the domain, what spells are in the list, what power/bonus it has tied with it, and which of the elements/paralements are tied with the domain, All together, it gives me a good sense of the overall "mood" of that domain. |

I know that, but I think there should be some background why someone chooses those domains he choosed and not only to get its powers/bonuses. I tend to look at the name of the domain, what spells are in the list, what power/bonus it has tied with it, and which of the elements/paralements are tied with the domain, All together, it gives me a good sense of the overall "mood" of that domain. Ok. Here's a try. Clarity of the Light The sun "sees" everything and nothing can be kept back from her. Woreshippers of Clarity of the Light believe in the truth and liers have to be punished. How about this? As long as the domain has only one 'woreshipper' it seems to be well, but having two or three 'worshippers' things seem to be a little more difficult. Especially with 'Blossom of the Sky' it is hard to get a "mood" if you do woreship Air. Except for Sky in the name this all has to do little with air in my opinionen. btw.:"Soaring Spirit" is missing in the cleric table on p.18 for the air domain. |

In the case of Athasian clerics they represent different aspects of the elemental force being worshipped. Athasian clerics do worship the elements, just not a specific being. All air clerics for example worship the elemental force of air, some choose to focus on different aspects - hence the different domains. Think in terms of different 'sects' of the same base denomination. The different synods of the US Prespetyrian (spelling) church for example - they have many similarities but differ on a few issues that each considers 'key'. All in all I would have structured things differently, by making the clerics each a separate class with their own individual spell lists (and no domains) - Wizard's finally started to embrace this alternate class approach (see Complete Warriors book). But the DS 3 system does work. |
