#1shades_of_eternityJan 12, 2004 7:27:56 | I am building a dwarf for a greyhawk campaign and was wondering. Where the heck are the major kingdoms and/or populations of these dwarves. |
#2ElendurJan 12, 2004 8:12:25 | Good question. The Principality of Ulek is the only one that comes to my mind. I've always assumed there were large kingdoms of mountain dwarves somewhere, but they were xenophobic and don't play much of a factor in surface politics. |
#3simpiJan 12, 2004 8:42:15 | Originally posted by shades of eternity There are quite many in areas surrounding Irongate. They have also spread to headlands on Onnwal, forming 9% of the entire population. |

#5zombiegleemaxJan 12, 2004 14:54:52 | Originally posted by Simpi The Living Onnwal Gazetteer has a good deal of detailed information about this area. But I don't believe there are any known Dwarven Kingdoms on the surface of the Flanaess. |
#6simpiJan 12, 2004 17:41:42 | Originally posted by Jason Zavoda I was referring to large populations, not Kingdoms. I also suggest that Shadows of E. check out LG Onnwal page. They have something about dwarves in their meta-book and players guide if I remember correctly: http://www.onnwal.org.uk/ It is of course not 'official' or 'canon' but might give you some ideas. |

All the mountain ranges hold large dwarf populations, as do most of the hillands. Also, I don't think the writers of the Living Greyhawk Guide took into account how the percentages of demi-humans is affected by nations with large populations. The populations of Ahlissa, Furyondy, and Nyrond in particular seem unduly inflated in real numbers when the percentages are multiplied out. |
#8eric_anondsonJan 13, 2004 20:56:24 | While not exclusively 'kingdoms' there are some dwarven settlements around the Flanaess. The From the Ashes set details three dwarven settlements in the Domain of Greyhawk, Greysmere, Karakast, and Dumadan (I think I got the spellings correct. I don't know if those places were ruled by 'kings' or not. In the Shield Lands, while there are few dwarves in total, there is an old dwarven settlement out on the rolling plains, called Law's Forge. It is a full-fledged county, ruled by a dwarven count. It is the only demi-human county in the Shield Lands. Its exiles probably make up the entire population of dwarves in the Shield Lands. But for major dwarven regions... The Lortmils, the Headlands and Iron Hills, and probably the Rakers (on the east slope, facing Ratik). Regards, Eric Anondson |
#9shades_of_eternityJan 15, 2004 22:48:50 | hmm in that case, I'm building a dwarvern clan on the barrier peaks. and yes my ancestors were involved in the expedition. Now where could they have migrated from? Which of the major dwarvern areas is closest? |
