Quick question... i read somewhere (another wotc forum i think) that divine spells of level 1 and 0 are cast by the cleric themself, through shear will power and belief... is this true? if so, can anyone point me in the direction of source material?

To put it in a Darksun perspective... i have a cleric (from another campain world) tapped on athas... he hasn't lost his faith, but has lost contact with his goddess.

That sounds correct, remember reading it somewhere.

Don't have the sources to back it up though.

While I'm not sure about 3e (I've not yet found a similar reference in the 3e Dieties and Demigods book), in the 2e DMG and Legends and Lore books it explains that 1st and 2nd lvl spells are gained through knowledge and faith, 5th level spells are the max for those who worship a demigod (and the demigod like servants of the lesser and greater gods are the ones who directly grant these spells anyhow), 6th lvl spells are the top end for lesser deities, while greater gods can grant 7th level spells (and the 6th and 7th lvl spells are gained directly from the diety).

So . . . if you stick with 2e terminology and rules, a demigod (or the equivalent strength servent of a true diety) venturing over to Athas could grant spells to its followers for those who want that kind of thing in their campaign; same would obviously hold true with lesser and greater gods as well. If your campaign is crossover in nature already, a lesser or greater god would likely send aid after a while to a powerful worshiper in the form of a servant that would grant higher level spells although I highly doubt that a true diety would make the trip itself for just a lone mortal.
