#1zombiegleemaxJan 13, 2004 20:29:54 | In my campaign, I want to have a big battle between two large cities, Palanthas being one of them. I'm curious as to how their governments work and what might lead them to war. Since the knights are from solomnia, it would probably be no contest anyways....is there something I could do about that or is there a more worthy opponent? Thanks |
#2talinthasJan 13, 2004 20:38:35 | LOL!!!!!!! ahh, the irony. the government? Lord Amothus rules one, a council rules the other. Why would they go to war? Beats me- both are trading partners and allies of the solamnics, and part of the greater state of Solamnia... Perhaps the govt of Kalaman is being controlled by necromancers who want to harness all the undead in nightlund to destroy the rest of solamnia. or something... I can't stop laughing enough to answer =) |

After the War of Souls Palanthas is still under the rule of the Dark Knights. Kalaman is ruled by Lord Genton, a previous commander of the city's militia and a council of merchant lords. The undead that were plaguing them before the War of Souls have left. So in that case it might be possible to start something between them. |

#8zombiegleemaxJan 14, 2004 14:53:25 | I know it wasn't very well thought out, thats why I asked for help/opinions. I don't know much about Kalaman or that the two were trading partners. Rather than laughing....how about a little(more likely alot) help to make it feasable. |
#9talinthasJan 14, 2004 21:40:45 | No friend, i wasn't laughing at you. It's just that for the past 8 years or so, i've been begging and pleading for solamnia to be fleshed out, specifically with governments. If my request had been heard, you wouldnt have to ask this question. For instance, do we even know if Palanthas is in Solamnia? We know that it is guarded by knights, but Lord Amothus runs the place, and Solanthus is the capital of solamnia.... all sorts of questions arise, and they should have all been answered in a campaign book. How can a proper campaign be run without basic info? This is why i laughed- a bitter, disheartened, sarcastic laugh. |

#11ferratusJan 15, 2004 1:16:15 | Well, personally I'd like to see Kalaman, Palanthas, and Solanthus become 3 different facets of the Solamnic personality. These would be very intense and pious people. Kalaman would become the center of Kiri-Jolith worship, hammering against the remaining undead and creating a marchland to punch through Estwilde and into Nereka. Palanthas would signify urban sophistication, new ideas, tolerance and the humanistic teachings of a god now mortal. Solanthus would be the center of tradition and Solamnic ideals of honour, fortitude, and virtue are upheld. Just something I injected into the cities to make adventuring in one very different from adventuring in another, yet still fit together in a greater Solamnic tapestry. |

The Solanthians, or whatever they're called, have kicked the Solamnic Knights out. Again. I doubt they'll still hold all their traditions, although maybe still hold similar ideals. |

#14ferratusJan 15, 2004 13:02:06 | Originally posted by pddisc Oh, the center of the Solamnic Knighthood will be Vingaard Keep. I have no doubt that the Solamnic cities will be controlled by merchant senates and lord mayors in the Palanthian model. They'd be a fool not to be represented and ruled by people who understand economics. All the knighthood knows is war and honour. Makes them exemplary warriors, but poor rulers. That's why Raye Oakensheild will add "The Charter" to the Oath and the Measure, outlining the duties of the Knighthood to the Solamnic homeland. However, Solanthus is the center of the Solamnic country, so I figured that they'd probably be the most closely tied to the knights of all of the major cities. |
#15silvanthalasJan 15, 2004 19:50:12 | You know, except for what was presented in WoS (which still wasn't alot), the presence of the Solamnic Knighthood on mainland Ansalon seems to be next to nil at times. All the focus seemed to be upon Sancrist. I can't be the only one who wonders how such a nation has maintained it's "grip" over such a large portion of Ansalon for the last +400 years. I mean, even considering that Solanthus, Palanthas, etc, are city-states, they all fell in line during the WotL. As if the Solamnics truly were in charge the whole time. |
