Red Steel/Brown Tide

Looking over Dragon 315 I was struck with an idea about the other side of Athas. A bunch of the campaigns detailed seemed to come from a "what's on the other side of the world" idea. Plus reading a bunch of the posts here about maps of all of Athas, and what's beyond the sea of silt got me thinking.

Someone a while ago suggested that if there are other civilizations around Athas, they couldn't possibly be fun and friendly places otherwise the SKs would have visited them and plundered, etc a long time ago.

My idea basically boils down to importing some of the ideas of the Red Steel campaign into Athas, as what lies beyond the sea of silt. Obviously changes would have to be made to make it more compatible (i.e. metal poor), in particular the history, and the mechanics of cinnabyrl/read steel. But Athas already has its own ancient "vermeil" substitute, the Brown Tide. The region could follow many of the basic rules of the red steel setting (the red curse, legacies, inheritor feat, afflicted templates, etc), by replacing the ubiquitous red dust with an equally ubiquitous leftover from the days of the Brown Tide, some kind of dried out spore or something.

Changing the cinnabryl/red steel to some kind of coral/stone-like substance (the same material of the Pristine tower maybe) reduces the dependance on metal, but keeps some of the same flavor (that said I have no idea what the intended flavor of the Red Steel setting is, having never seen it until this issue of Dragon).

Anyway, it's just an idea. Since Paizo watered down Dark Sun for mass consumption, why not use some other watered down stuff in Dark Sun as compensation.

Short answer: Copyright infringement

Long Answer: While athas.org has the permission to make new Dark Sun products, they aren't allowed to include elements from other worlds, and aren't even permitted to present the copyrighted filler text or pictures that were already relesed in DS1 and DS2 + the accessories. This means while your idea is cool, they really cannot use ideas from those other worlds (without some serious checking on the legality of the situation) in DS3. They cannot even include the material presented in Dragon #315, as it would be a copyright infringement issue.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm 95% certian I'm right on this.

Maybe I wasn't clear. This is totally not for official DS3(.5), it's just an idea for those looking to expand their campaign. Since there is no official stance on what's beyond the silt sea (and even if there were), in private campaigns everything is fair game.

Umm.... ok. Sorry, I thought it was a suggestion to the official team. For your own game, yea, that's cool.
