#1zombiegleemaxJan 17, 2004 17:22:25 | Well, i was dming this days, and i realize that i wasnt beeing true to DL history about a NPC: i just didnt let Verminard die at Thorbadin. The reason? It is one of my favorite (ok, no one of, but THE favortie) NPC. He is still alive during the WotL and kicking some ass, while keeping his Red Dragon Army on his hands. My question is: does any of you changes the history like that? Does any of you have a favorite NPC that will no die under the history circunstances (im not saying that Verminard is imortal in my campaign, but he just didnt die at that stronghold)? k, thats all... #2zombiegleemaxJan 17, 2004 17:39:25 | Since noone ever found a body, I see little reason to believe Verminaard actually died. No, he is still planning global conquest. And how to off that darn immortal Toede. How is Verminaard still alive at 100 years+, thats a secret he is not telling. |
#3baron_the_curseJan 17, 2004 18:33:59 | Well, Lord Ariakan and Tanis survived the Chaos War in my campaign. I just thought their official death scenes where too unjust. Lord Ariakan is a demi-god, or should be, his mother is a goddess and his father was the most powerful wizard of his time. And Tanis deserves some peace after the Chaos War with his wife Laurana. |
#4Matthew_L._MartinJan 17, 2004 19:37:03 | Actually, Verminaard never dies at Thorbardin 'officially'. :-) What happens is the 'obscure death' trick that the DL modules used--he falls into a pit and isn't seen again. However, he apparently resurfaces in DL12 as "Sevil Draanim Rev" (read that backwards, and compare their stat blocks), and the 15th Anniversary supermodule makes this explicit. As Steve Miller, designer on that project, once put it, there's no reason Verminaard can't live to a ripe old age. Heck, give him a couple of _potions of longevity_ or the like, and he could flock to the One God's banner during the War of Souls. :-) Matthew L. Martin, thinks that canon is largely irrelevant to gaming _anyway_. |
#5carteegJan 17, 2004 22:26:57 | *SPOILERS for the DL campaign * I actually had Eben live past DL4 too. He was beaten to a pulp by Vermy. The PCs rescued him. The battle finished, etc. etc. Eben was arrested by the refugees to be hung in short order. One of the PCs actually broke him out of prison. He escaped. So what did I do after that? During the months that followed, he travelled in poor condition over the mountains, and eventually ran into another bad on his luck man... named Sevil Rev. They joined together, got along well, and made it (eventually) to Flotsam where Rev unified (or destroyed) the local thieving guilds, taking over the underworld. Eben became second in charge of the Guild. Eventually, the PCs reached Flotsam and spotted Eben having not-all-that-nice words with Ettel (one of Kit's Ltn's). In the end of that stint, the PCs AND Eben discover Sevil was Vermy. Vermy gets away, and Eben joined the group from the rest of the campaign. Over time, he actually redemed himself of his earlier betrayal (which isn't much considering half the PCs were betraying the group left and right). In fact, he was one of two characters to plunge a True Dragonlance into Takhisis in the climax forcing her into the Abyss right when Berem forced himself into the pillar beneath them in order to slam the gate shut. (Yeah, another change... I forced the PCs to do TWO of the possible goals in order to win the game). On the whole, the Eben in the campaign became more fleshed out and better developed (in my opinion) character than the brief cameo he had in the book. He had too much potiential and I was VERY glad to have the opportunity to expand him into a major character. I was also happy to kill off Tanis in Caergoth, but that's another issue. |
#6DragonhelmJan 17, 2004 22:30:27 | Originally posted by Burger War of the Dark Lance Darklance is sort of a "What if Chaos never came to Dragonlance?" type of setting. It plays out various things for the war where the Knights of Takhisis conquer Ansalon, and there are some new twists as well. Darklance is based on some old campaigns that a friend of mine and I ran, where the timeline caught up with us. Now it has become an alternate history. |
