#1bonemageJan 17, 2004 23:46:16 | I was wondering if the planewalker.com site going to release modules and add on guides? I understand the main focus is on and should be the main rules and updating those but are there plans to release say adventures, updated monster manuals, or entirely new add-ons? Also how close is the Planewalker project to things that may get published in Dragon? I mean is planewalker official Planescape or just have permission from Wizards to do what they are doing in a fan site sort of capacity? |

There is not official 3rd edition Planescape campaign setting, but a multitude of resources--either in secondary products like the Books of Vile Darkness and Exaulted Deeds, respectively, that provide official conversions for aspects of the setting, or in fan-based sites in which players make their own conversions--that allow 3e campaigns in the planes. Unless WotC picks up the setting again, but that's another thread. Or, rather, more like five other threads that have come up in this forum and all reached the conclusion that it wasn't going to happen for one reason or another. PS3E, the sister site of planewalker, still has fan-submitted material and conversions for things. And Planewalker has races, feats/skills, and factions complete, and have promised a Sigil chapter coming very soon, which is very much anticipated. The Mimir used to be the official site. It's still around, though it hasn't recieved attention in years. It remains, though, a lovely site which nicely captures the feel and flavor of the setting, if a bit out-of-date with DnD rules. To me, the best thing about the Planewalker PSCS project isn't that it will be official, because it can't be. It will be that there will be one complete and thorough 3rd edition Planescape source that we can all play in and be "on the same page," so to speak, instead of using bits and pieces of converted monsters from here, or unofficial conversions from there. |
#4Shemeska_the_MarauderJan 19, 2004 13:18:11 | It's as official as you'll get honestly, argue as you like about canon for a setting if it's published by company A or company B or not published but with the tacit approval of the company that owns the setting. As for Dragon mag, I've put forth ideas on two articles to them but after an initial reply asking for more info they havn't gotten back to me yet. I'm being patient but at this point not sure if anything will happen. In any event I'll write those both up and even if they never do anything with it I'll put it out on the web if they decline. |
#5bonemageJan 19, 2004 18:52:35 | Well I guess my main question was about published stuff in Dragon and Dungeon. It does't seem like TSR/Wizards will bring it back in an offical capsity any time soon if ever. Also on the 3E project what kinds of products other than the base rules are they thinking about doing? Modules? Other source material? |
#6Shemeska_the_MarauderJan 19, 2004 19:01:13 | Modules eventually, though that won't happen till the core product is released as a pdf. There's a guide to the Gith races in the works as well but I'm not involved with that, at least not at the moment though if asked I'll contribute. |
#7bonemageJan 19, 2004 19:25:36 | Is there any kind of rough time line? I mean not to ask for too much being you guys are volunteering and the work is really appreciated. |
#8Shemeska_the_MarauderJan 19, 2004 19:28:39 | Not that I have for easy access, no. It's out there, but I generally just write and then write faster when I'm told a deadline. ;) There is a rough schedule and also a priority list for things that I've seen. I'm sure it'll get put up on the site sometime. |
#9zombiegleemaxJan 20, 2004 6:37:19 | Originally posted by Shemeska the Marauder Who was the editor when you made the article proposals? Dragon cycled through editors pretty quickly there, switching from Jesse Decker to Chris Thomasson to Matthew Sernett all in the space of five or six months...it's possible Matthew's not even aware of your proposal or the additional information you submitted, if one of the other two requested it. As for the life of Planescape in Dragon magazine, I sent Matthew an email about following up my "Fractious Factions" article with another including more of the faction prestige classes. After all, it's been three years since the first article, and they've printed several Scale Mail entries asking for the balance of the factions, plus the campaign classics issue was a huge success. Alas, he told me they had enough prestige classes to do them for a long while, but he did tell me what kind of plane-related article he'd like to have. :D So my advice, Shemeska, is to follow up again, and keep doing so every two months or so. They're overworked and understaffed at the magazine, and they don't mean to leave people hanging...it just happens that way, sometimes. And yes, it does sometimes help to have the article written beforehand. Since you don't get paid until it's published, the shorter time between when he says "yes" and you get him the finished piece, the sooner it'll appear in the mag (usually, but not in every case). Good luck! WizO_Dabus, author of "Fractious Factions" in #287, "Open Skies: The Silver Strike Guild" in #307, "Dweomered Dragon Scales" in #308, and "Searing Flames: The Ecology of the Salamander" in #314 |
#10Shemeska_the_MarauderJan 20, 2004 10:34:21 | *ears perk towards the Dabus (despite that you can't hear a rebus)* Actually that may be the case because I first submitted the idea last March and got a reply around July or so, roughly something like that. Two ideas, both planar in nature though not absolutely Planescape in scope. Thank you very much for the advice, I think I'll send off another email to them in case my first shot at it got lost in the editor shuffle. (And btw, if we ever get you down here I'd stick you in a game in a heartbeat so you could play for once. I was told you were fairly close.) Again, thank you greatly |

#12Shemeska_the_MarauderJan 20, 2004 15:51:12 | *chuckle* Only one state away, but yeah I have every intention of being at GenCon this year. It'll be the first time I've gone if indeed I do get to go. |
