Question for Erik Mona about LGJ

Hi Erik,

I was just wondering if there is noticeable variation in the number of issues of Dungeon that are sold during LGJ and non-LGJ months. For what it's worth, I only purchase issues that have Greyhawk content, and I prefer gazetteer style material on history, culture, mysterious places, etc.

Thanks in advance for your response... and for ensuring that fresh, quality material keeps coming our way!

There's not really an easy way to tell which issues will have Living Greyhawk Journals in them. There will be a Journal in issues 109, 111, and 113 for sure. Issue #112 will certainly have LOTS of interest to Greyhawk fans, as it's a celebration of D&D's 30th Anniversary and contains something very, very special.

Beyond that, it's difficult to say for sure, but I can essentially assure you that there will be more Greyhawk content in future issues, rather than less. Much of it will be positioned as "core D&D" rather than explicitly Greyhawk or Living Greyhawk, but as I'm editing it, it won't (intentionally) conflict with canonical material.

Oh, and it looks like we'll be getting new maps of the Flanaess in the next year, too.

Thanks Erik! But I guess what I really was trying to get at (let's see if I can express myself more clearly!) was:

In the past, have issues that contained LGJs sold more than issues that did not? Does Paizo have any sales-related incentives to include more GH material in Dungeon, or does GH content not affect magazine sales at all?

Thanks again for taking the time to respond to fan mail in person!

By the way, that is great news about the new maps and the anticipated GH content in the issues for the upcoming year!!! I really am looking forward to it all (and I guess it's a sign that GH content at the very least does not result in decreased sales volumes...).

Erik,

Could you tell me which issue of Dragon Magazine had the LGJ detailing the Belching Vortex of Leuk-O?

Thanks!

I'm not Erik, but "The Belching Vortex of Luek-O" appeared in LGJ#1, which was a separate non-Dragon/non-Dungeon magazine when it was published in Sept 2000.

However, Mortepierre might have been referring to the adventure "Kambranex's Machinations," which appeared in Dungeon #91 and contained lots of references to the location, using the "Places of Mystery" in LGJ #1 as an acknowledged bit of inspiration.

I haven't honestly sat down with the numbers to see how LGJ issues affect sales. I'll take a look, but the numbers are so arcane it's often difficult to tell the effect of one feature upon overall sales numbers.

No one really complains about the LGJ, though, which makes it unique among the non-adventure content in Dungeon.

Any possibility you could give a clue what these LGJ issues will deal with?

Dungeon #109 will have an in-depth look at the city of Hardby. I'm not entirely sure what the others will contain, but I've got plenty of exciting options.

Dang, I'm going to have to get a new subscription at this rate. (Knightfall looks in his wallet... "Arrg, I don't have the money for a new subscription!")

Ah well, spilt milk and all that.

W00t!

Ok, I don't care if I have to sell my blood. I am going to find a way to renew my subscription.

A man after my own heart. That's the kind of stuff I like to sneak into the LGJ even if you have piggy-back it on a new Prestige Class!

Right on spot. Sorry, I wasn't clear enough in my question. Thank you for the inspired answer
