#1zombiegleemaxJan 21, 2004 22:56:02 | Long time reader, first time poster Now with that out of the way, it seems like alot of you would like to get ahold of "Diesel". Well I did a quick search and came up with an e-mail address for David S. "Diesel" LaForce, TSR cartographer extrodinaire. sable@genevaonline.com I don't know if it works but I figured someone would like to have it. |

#3zombiegleemaxJan 22, 2004 7:42:02 | Any Ideas where I can get these map cartographer programs? I'll do the work for my Athas myself. just new to this Thanks |
#4zombiegleemaxJan 22, 2004 13:41:54 | There's several free ones available like Dungeon Crafter, Izwando (renamed to something like Map-X), and Auto Realm. I don't have direct links but a quick google will get you the homepage to download the programs. All three are limited to some degree or another, but with a little time and some personal tailoring, I've seem some great maps done with them. If you want to chunk out a few bucks (well, alot more than just a few) there's always Campaign Cartographer (uses an AutoCAD interface to make maps) or, if your more artistically inclined, Adobe Photoshop (or an equivalent style digital design program). At least with CC, you can try out the demo version (99% of features, no saving files) before you learn how much of a pain in the arse it is and spend just shy of 200 bucks on it. Not sure about Photoshop or how easy it is to use or even how much it is since I'm anything but an artist. |

#7GrummoreJan 23, 2004 11:40:40 | Since I own my mac, not having any mapper program is one of the only things that ever bugged me. If you know one for the mac (I found one on rpgnow which is so so, but only 8 bucks), please tell me! |
#8zombiegleemaxJan 23, 2004 14:40:15 | Auto-Realm is nice. I like the random name generator that comes with it. However, it freezes sometimes and freezes my whole system. Also, I have not found a way to add new symbols to it. NBOS's Fractal Mapper version 1 is the best map making program I have ever found. It simple takes the most numerous color and makes it transparent. It also keeps each symbol on a floating map. So you can select it and move it around. This means you can create your own symbols or use somebody else's. You can also make city and dungeon maps if you have the right graphics too. I created my Edge of Athas Map with it and many other detailed area maps like this one. I used gifs from Caeser 3 to create this noble resort town. This is a shot of several villas and one of the emperor's palace at the bottom. http://www.iownjoo.com/freeimghost/marcusmagnus/DoDSampRT1.jpg I really could make a cool Dark Sun world with that program, I just have to sit down and decide on one. |
#9zombiegleemaxJan 24, 2004 14:09:52 | I have struggled for two long days and have finally completed (I hope) my map of Athas. I took all of the maps from the Jagged Cliffs, and the campaign setting and merged them into one. If any one would like to see it, just ask and I'll email it to you. It is 5.6 MB so be sure your email server can hyandle it. |
