I seriously couldn't believe what this guy was posting. You have to see this to believe it and even then...

Hey, I appreciate the zeal in defending Greyhawk, but I don't think Edymnion was trying to cast aspersion on our favorite setting. He was not lieing or spreading misinformation. What he was getting at, I think, is that the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer is not a campaign source book in the same sense of the Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms setting books. Edymnion has a pretty good head on his shoulders, and too much might have been read in his remarks. Halzmar of Geoff, a poster in the same thread, did a good job of answering the question more accurately. But again, I don't think Edymnion was being purposefully antagonizing.

If you want to avoid cross-setting flame wars, be a bit more reserved in rebuttals. Villifying another poster, no matter how wrong he or she is, does little to avert argument.

Edition wars, cross posting, and all other things aside... The original reply wasn't very well thought out and could be interpreted in any number of ways.

I'm pretty sure that you don't mean 'Fritz the Cat' as he was simply asking an honest question. But the person who responded, was acting either as someone uninformed and inorant, or he was, as you claim, taking part in the 'setting wars'. Personally, I think the 'setting wars' is complete garbage, and what will the world come to when even nerds within THEIR OWN GAME are fighting each other. I can understand RPG nerds fighting TTG, or CCG nerds, Star Trek nerds, and Star wars nerds, or even nerds fighting within their own genres, but when you have nerds fighting each other in THEIR OWN GAME...then it's a sad, sad day to be a nerd. *Steel Rabbit lights a candle*

But seriously, lighten up, I'm just as big a fan of Greyhawk as anyone else (I only run campaigns in Greyhawk, or my own world...Mostly Greyhawk), and you don't see me running around bashing other worlds. I'm experienced in the ways of promoting a game someone thought 'dead', like Warzone/Chronopia, Battletech, and I'm even in the fight for the remnants of 'Chainmail' (which unlike the others I've mentioned, IS dead), and I know the best way to promote a 'dead' game is to do so peacefully, and diplomatically. Instead of attacking another game/world, point out why yours is unique, and should be worth thier money and time.

I'm not saying you (Graz Hober), or anyone I've encountered so far, is guilty of the things I've mentoned, I'm just bouncing around from one tangent to another. By-the-Way, if you like Greyhawk, and appreciate a game that doesn't attack your pocketbook, or eyesight, then dump D&D Mini's and pick up some Chainmail models from bargain bins, and eBay, it'll be worth your time, and money (very little money is required, by-the-way). Just a shameless plug.

I gleefully trash most things FR without a second thought. And just as gleefully steal the little interesting bits found throughout FR's large steaming corpulent mass whenever it suits my purposes.

Well, I threw in my two (non-confrontational) cents.
