#1PennarinFeb 05, 2004 11:50:38 | How would you feel about a monster with two DRs? One DR 15/metal, to stop all those stone weapons, and one DR 5/- or DR 5/magic, to even reduce the efficacity of metal weapons. Would you consider it... - power play - silly :D - sensible (you do what you need to do to make things work) - don't care at all for details like that, role playing rules! If someone can find in an official monster collection from WotC a monster with two DRs, I will personnaly give that someone a cookie! |
#2zombiegleemaxFeb 05, 2004 12:05:58 | I haven't seen that type of thing but you could be nasty and go 10/metal and magic(psionic) |
#3KamelionFeb 05, 2004 13:04:27 | If someone can find in an official monster collection from WotC a monster with two DRs, I will personnaly give that someone a cookie! Pit Fiend (DR 15/good and silver). Gimme that cookie! (Plenty fiends have this in 3.5, iirc... ) |
#4xlorepdarkhelm_dupFeb 05, 2004 13:25:07 | I think he was meaning 2 DR's where the numbers are different. I don't think there's one listed, but I don't see why it couldn't happen. it would just mean that the creature's more resistant to most things, and only slightly resistant to other things. |
#5nytcrawlrFeb 05, 2004 13:59:19 | Hell I made several NPCs in my Epic campaign have several different DRs with different ratings. I have yet to see anything official with that, but the rules support it, they just don't stack, at least the first part (which is the numbers) don't. |

That's no what he meant!! Is it, Pennarin? I want my cookie, dammit! >reluctantly prepares to admit defeat< |
#7PennarinFeb 05, 2004 17:08:32 | Originally posted by Kamelion Sorry Kam, if I could split a cookie I would...I just can't...I don't have a cookie to spare... -me hoarding cookies- Originally posted by NytCrawlr If you mean you don't add them togheter, that's what I heard too. An obsidian dagger striking would lose 15 points, because of DR 15/metal, but a metal dagger striking would lose less, 5 points, because of DR 5/-. I still don't know if both DRs can be said to come from the same source, say, the hide of the monster, or do each DR has to have its own source? Like one comes from the hide and the other from demonic essence (non DS example), or something... |
#8nytcrawlrFeb 05, 2004 18:35:47 | Originally posted by Pennarin In that example I would say from a different source. That's how I would rule it as a DM anyways. :D |
#9flipFeb 06, 2004 14:44:06 | Originally posted by Pennarin That's fine. Hell, a pit fiend who casts Stoneskin ends up with two DRs (temporarily, but still) ... You apply whichever one gives you the most advantage. |
#10dawnstealerFeb 06, 2004 14:48:52 | /me walks into room. "Hey! A cookie." /happily munches on argued over cookie while watching exchange. What about the Terrasque? If I remember right, it has a few resistances. Don't have the book at work, though... Good cookie. *burp!* |
