krynn linked to the planes?

Are there any good descriptions for how krynn is linked to the outer planes? In the books it seems as though there is just one upper and one lower that encompass just good and evil with an outer area for neutrality but does not include all the normal rings of planes for each alignment subgroup. So, can you for example use plane shift to get to Mt. Celestia or Hell; or do you get to some generic abyss or some such? My reason for asking is that plane shift is a wonderful "oh crud we are all going to die, but we can plane shift to somewhere else" spell. True a DM can always put you in a stew but sometimes anywhere but where you are is a good thing.

There are only three outer planes in the DL cosmology.
The "Great Bubble" (as I call the DL cosmology) isn't connected to other cosmologies, unless you use the theoretical link through the Plane of Shadow.

To further elaborate:

Dome of Creation (home of good outsiders)
Hidden Vale (home of neutral outsiders)
Abyss (home of evil outsiders)

Each plane has realms within it that are keyed to specific deities or creatures.

e.g. There is an area of the Hidden Vale populated by slaadi.

All this and more is detailed in the Dragonlance Campaign Setting and the Dragonlance Dungeon Master's Guide.

Though if you really want to tie into the standard D&D planar structure, you can assume that the three godly realms are demiplanes in the Ethereal that "surround" Krynn. This would be consistent with published remarks about the gods protecting Krynn from the turbulence of the Ethereal Sea.

Access to the rest of the D&D planes would then be achieved by way of the godly realms. For example, the Dome of Creation might include portals to the Upper Planes of the D&D cosmology. The Abyss would control access to the Lower. The Hidden Vale to the Middle.

The various gods are likely to employ outsiders from these planes in their service, and so would have such beings within their realms. Also, the realms of individual gods with the larger godly demiplanes might have especially close connections to particular planes that match a god's temperment. For example, Sirrion would be likely to have close ties to Limbo, Mishakal to Elysium, Sargonnas to Acheron, etc.

Krynn has never had extensive access to the planes, and even Krynnish wizards have never been big plane travellers. I would assume that attempts to come and go from Krynn using spells like Plane Shift, Gate, Astral Spell, etc all deposit the would-be traveller into one of the godly demiplanes. From there they might be able to gain access to portals to travel Beyond.

This would account for the lack of experience with anything beyond the god realms. Since direct travel would be impossible, and since the gods probably discourage casual wanderingoutside of the Krynnish cosmology, few people have made the journey and returned.

The planescape supplement on hollowed ground placed the gods of krynn on various outer planes. I can't remember them all, but some of them were:

Mishakal, Majere--Elysium
Reorx-Arcadia
Chemosh, Hiddukel--Abyss
3 magic gods--Etheral
Paladine-Mount Celestia
Sargas--Gehenna
Morgion--Hades
Kiri Jolith--Bytopia, Shurrock (kinda odd...)

As for Takhisis, no one ever seemed to be able to figure out where she lived. When Raistlin goes to find her, she's definitely in the Abyss. He and Crysania are even attacked by Rutterkin.

After that, everyone seems to put her in the Nine Hells, though I think her insane desire to destroy EVERYTHING would make her chaotic evil...
