Hey dudes. I've been playing D&D (and other RPGs) off and on for close to 20 years now :OMG! I have been bouncing around with 3/3.5 looking for that "perfect" campaign setting, and I believe I have found it in Greyhawk. (I of course tried the Realms but found myself so swamped in material that the information overload threatened to burn me out).

I have the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer and I'm currently reading the details of some of the regions of the Flaeness that I'll be using in my game (tried to read the entire Gazetteer cover to cover and couldn't do it--waaaaay too much dry historical information).

Any advice on what I need to do/know/acquire to make this first adventure work?

More information (ie, where the adventure/campaign will take place, scenario you're running, etc) would be a good first step to getting useful advice.

Heh heh...truth is, I don't know much yet. Here's what I have so far (note the places where I've left out stuff )

THERE WILL COME SOFT RAINS

a PBP adventure for D&D 3.5 (Greyhawk)

N’gath N’gulle was known to everyone in the village of Hull as the kindly Elven hermit who lived in the woods. Some called her a witch; some a druid; some a seer. But whatever she was called, she was loved, even revered by both the children and adults of Hull.

Then one day she was found murdered in her hut. Her body was ripped and broken and torn, her hut stripped bare of all possessions. Her beloved wolf Thorne lay dead beside her, its head severed by a blade that had obviously been razor-sharp.

On the wall of the hut, written in the seer’s own blood, was a bizarre message: THERE WILL COME SOFT RAINS.
---------

THERE WILL COME SOFT RAINS is a D&D 3.5 adventure set in the ??? region of the Flaeness (Greyhawk). The year is 592 CY, the current season ???. Characters will be 1st level PCs who either live in Hull or have decided to stay there for a short time on their travels. Adventure details are as follows:

Number of players: 4
Races: Any from the PHB. Hull is a village of 458 people, all human, but the village sees many travellers from ??? on their way to ???. Characters playing humans may be native to the village or travellers; characters playing demi-humans will probably be travellers (but I’m open to having a crusty old gnome who lives in the village and gets along with everyone, or something like that).
Classes: Any from the PHB.
Source material: PHB, DMG, MM, LGG.
Alignment: Any non-evil.
Attributes: Standard point buy (give page reference)
Equipment: ??? gp, any items from PHB.
Game rules:
--DM (that’s me!) will do all die rolls for combat, skill checks, etc.
--Posting frequency: every 1-2 days. If you are unable to post this regularly, please don’t join the game! Explained absences are forgivable (in moderation :-). Unexplained absences will result in your character’s untimely death and the story will continue.
--OOC discussion should occur on Talking the Talk (except for short comments which can appear in [square brackets] ). Describe your character’s actions in as detailed, dramatic and cinematic a fashion as you can, but any reference to mechanics (i.e. “I want to bull-rush” or “I’ll fight defensively”) should be minimized and put in [square brackets]).

Well, there it is so far. Not much yet. I'm wondering how much I need to know to begin running this; the adventure won't be heavily dependent on the details of the Greyhawk setting, but obviously I want to have some familiarity with it first...

Advice?

Well, the first thing you need to do is decide where to set your adventure. I'd suggest looking at Furyondy or Verbobonc, but that comes from the fact that I'm currently running a campaign in that area; Verbobonc probably has more demi-humans than you want, anyway. You might just look at a map and choose countries that way, then read the LGG entries one country at a time - not in alphabetical order - until you find one that suits you. Or skim the LGG entries by looking at population demographics - if you want a country with few elves or other demi-humans, then make note of which ones have that demographic make-up.
