Are there any rules regarding the orbs of dragonkind. The orbs presented in the DMG are certainly not the same orbs as the orbs on Krynn. I was wondering wether there were any fan material, or perhaps some official rules. If not, will they be detailed in any future products?

Stats for one dragon orb were presented in the Anvil of Time adventure in Dungeon magazine #86.

Do keep in mind however that each orb has powers that are specific to it and it alone, There have only been detailed reports on a some of them however, so that means you write up some of your own material without worrying about overwriting cannnon material...

Dragon orbs will be detailed in the Towers of High Sorcery book, due from Soveriegn Press in May. Thanks!

Sounds interesting.

I lost a lot of respect for the DragonOrbs, though, when the Orb in Silvanesti was able to do as much damage as it was, while the one at the High Clerists Tower could not overcome Kitiara's strength of will.

Just did not make any sense. I realize for storyline purposes that Kitiara needed a way to escape, but still.

It really is a cool book, Tal, with some great information both on the game and story side. Margaret and Chris Pierson wrote some great material along with the other designers, and I'm pretty proud of the material I've been working on.

Everyone will be happy to hear that the book is going into editing and we have beautiful interior art as well as Larry Elmore's excellent cover. Everything seems on-schedule for a May release.

That is easy Kitiara isn't a Dragon, and since she wasn't trying to use the Orb she wasn't effected. The Dragon Orb in Silvanesti was used against the Dragon Armies except Lorac never gained control over the Orb, and it turned on him. Allowing Cyan Bloodbane to manipulate him. The power of the Orb is limited. It can't effect every dragon in the area of effect. I'm sure after so many dragons say (1d4) Controled, then the DC is half for saving throw for other Dragons. That is why Kitiara mount was able to shrug off the effect of the dragon Orb.

Now, of course, a new theory can be presented based on the War of Souls storyline. Since Skie/Khellendros was not a dragon native to Krynn, he was not affected to the same way other dragons were. I realize that's NOT what was going on when the novels were originally written, but that's one of the fun elements of stories--you can pin new ideas onto old ones and make them fit!
