Hello all,

One of the many things in the creative process that I can't do is think of names for my characters/NPCs. I prefer not saying "you approach an elf and he introduces himself as elf trader X."

Does anyone have a DS name generator of perhaps know where one is located on the web?

Thanks!

I have a rhul-than name generator on my site. Aaron Garvey used to have a name generator on his site (some years back, for those who remember the DS Resource Site); I have it saved on disk (somewhere, IIRC), but since it isn't my code, I haven't posted it on my site.

I have this huge list of names that I got from somewhere (netbook of athas, iirc) - it's all the names from the novels and game material and there are over 400 on the list. I generally use that for midgame invention.

I use EBON (Ever Changing Book of Names) and generate, Assyrian, Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek, India, Latin, Muslim, Persian, Phoenitian, Sumerian & Turkish names and pick the ones I like best. I think you can download an EBON trail version of the internet.

Cool.
Where did you find your chapters on those languages, Ral?

From their website. If they are not there (I have not checked in a year or so, then PM me with your email and I will send them). I also have unbound chapters for a few of them (you can generate more than five at a time, since I have had ebon on my computer since 2000).

...

Just a note on names, certain names are more popular than others. For instance, in medieval England, "John" was very popular. About a third of the boys in medieval England were named "John". Certain areas on Athas will have common names like that etc.

I have enboldened them. Middle Eastern and Greek(Eastern Europe) are the most useful.

*off to download the new names files I see they now have there*
