#1zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 7:23:29 | I was wondering if Athas.org is working, plans to, or is willing to have an "official" map of the Known World of Athas (Besides the original). One that may be downloaded from their site? |
#2nytcrawlrFeb 22, 2004 9:23:39 | I'm really hoping for one myself. Though I am liking what Dawnstealer is doing to the original maps. |
#3zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 9:38:42 | Nyt, What is Dawnstealer doing with the original maps? |
#4nytcrawlrFeb 22, 2004 9:50:00 | Well, here is one thing. Trying to find the link for the other. |
#5flindbarFeb 22, 2004 13:46:08 | Originally posted by NytCrawlr Woa !! I like it. I really do like to see the whole planet. |
#6zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 13:46:24 | Well, I am working on a totally new map using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. I have created a temporary Geocities website (sorry about pop-ups) to give examples of the map. One day I will have my own site but for now this will do. Please check it out and tell me what you think. (Removed Old Link) |
#7KamelionFeb 22, 2004 13:50:52 | Nice one! I especially like the view of Thamasku - the 3d effect comes through really well... |
#8nytcrawlrFeb 22, 2004 17:11:49 | Agreed, that's awesome, keep up the good work. |
#9zombiegleemaxFeb 26, 2004 21:56:56 | I have finished the first version of my remake of Athas. If you follow the following link you will find it.http://www.geocities.com/cyrus9a/index.html Tell me what you think. |
#10nytcrawlrFeb 26, 2004 22:11:21 | Man that's freaking beautiful. Great job! |
#11zombiegleemaxFeb 26, 2004 23:53:25 | Thank you Nyt! I am beginning work on the area east of the Sea of Silt. I have an example prepared. I think I am going to keep the general outline, But I am still messing around with what terrain will go where. I am trying to keep the idea of Brax's map of Athas in mind while doing it. If anyone has suggestions, feel free to spesk up. http://www.geocities.com/cyrus9a/index.html |
#12nytcrawlrFeb 26, 2004 23:58:12 | Originally posted by Cyrus9a Well, the link is dead jim, and I think you mean Brax, not Baxa. |
#13KamelionFeb 27, 2004 3:14:40 | Wonderful work, Cyrus9a The silt sea east looks good as far as its gone - keep at it (Oh, and it's Koschak Mountains, not Roschak. What would a compliment from me be without a picky picky to go with it...?) |
#14zombiegleemaxFeb 27, 2004 3:54:38 | (Oh, and it's Koschak Mountains, not Roschak. What would a compliment from me be without a picky picky to go with it...?) Thank you Kamelion, I have already made the required changes. And as for Nyt... The link isn't dead, it's just Geocities and their extremely low hourly "Data Transfer" thing. If to many people look at it it will lock out for an hour. You're right, I was refering to Brax and not Baxa. Those two names are just to close. |
#15nytcrawlrFeb 27, 2004 14:15:25 | Originally posted by Cyrus9a Still can't get to it, sheesh, evil geocities, hehe. Do you need a place for your stuff? I can create a subdomain for you and let you load stuff up there? Send me an email. |
#16zombiegleemaxFeb 27, 2004 14:44:59 | Thanks for the offer Nyt! But I will have my website out sometime next week so I'm not in to much of a hurry. Hopefully you'll have better luck there. |
#17nytcrawlrFeb 27, 2004 14:46:39 | Originally posted by Cyrus9a Cool beans. Your link is up, it's just out of data for the hour or whatever. |
#18dawnstealerFeb 27, 2004 16:24:58 | I hear you on Geocities; if more than two people click on the nightmare beast, you can pretty much count the site as AWOL for the next hour. I was working on the Athas map before the monster doc swept me up. Almost done with it, but that's a great job! Good map. |
#19xlorepdarkhelm_dupFeb 28, 2004 3:18:00 | I actually have a gallery system up and running with my site, and would be more than happy to include pictures from projects for Dark Sun in them, which would be outside the geocities environment. If you are interested, e-mail me, and we'll talk. |
#20zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 8:05:02 | Very nice work there Cyrus. My only suggestion would be to include a map key. Other than that, fantastic job. |
#21zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 8:57:25 | Thanks Mach2.5! I am actually working on a map key that I plan on having as a seperate image so as not to cover up map space. The key would also cover other maps I intend to finish of Athas. |
#22PennarinFeb 28, 2004 12:25:23 | Hou...hou...typo! Wilis=Walis :D Love it! Question: Is it spawning from a program that allows you to make even larger scaled copies of that map? Might be fun, for fun's sake, to put everything on it, including the stuff from every adventure module and Dungeon adventure. Cyrus, did you thought of making a known world map speficically for Afghan and his Silt Archipelago project? It could be hosted on his site... |
#23zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 20:55:35 | Hello Pennarin, I made it with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. I still have my base images and could probably make it larger with a little work. (I'll look into doing it. It might take me a week or so) And as for Afghan, if he wanted me to make a blow-up of the Silt Acrhipelago I could. I intend to make those islands anyway since I am currently making my "Islands of the Silt Sea" map set. And as for the typo I'll have it fixed momentarily. |
#24zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 21:14:10 | I have uploaded an updated version of my New Region to my "test site" if anyone would like to check it out. |
#25zombiegleemaxFeb 29, 2004 0:33:18 | Sure, but I'd need a link or address first. |
#26zombiegleemaxFeb 29, 2004 6:38:11 | Oh allright.... http://www.geocities.com/cyrus9a/index.html |
#27GrummoreFeb 29, 2004 13:48:09 | Cyrus, while I like the knownworld.jpg map, I find the "newregion.jpg" somehow blurred? Not enouph contrast. Was is intentionnal? |
#28zombiegleemaxFeb 29, 2004 21:29:41 | Hello you Silly Frog! That is only a "pre-release map" to give an idea of what I am doing. I will be recreating the terrain to mix it a bit more and define it better. So hopefully it won't be as blurred when I'm finnished. |
#29zombiegleemaxMar 01, 2004 1:12:19 | I think it only looks more plain because there's no cliff-cutting or mountains and such. Looks interesting. Can't wait to see what you fill in the map with over-all. |
#30zombiegleemaxMar 01, 2004 6:26:51 | I can't either! |
#31nytcrawlrMar 01, 2004 13:19:07 | Good job all around Cyrus! |
#32zombiegleemaxMar 01, 2004 13:24:11 | Cyrus, Very IMPRESSIVE WORK!!! Nicely done, I'd like to try to emulate your work for all of my maps. Incredible |
#33zombiegleemaxMar 02, 2004 10:53:49 | Thank you Gr8scott. If you need to know how I did anything, I'd be more than willing to tell you. |
#34zombiegleemaxMar 02, 2004 11:40:34 | This is what the two pieces look like together so far. http://www.geocities.com/cyrus9a/index.html |
#35jihun-nishMar 03, 2004 21:45:48 | Originally posted by Cyrus9a For those of us who has the original maps, I guess we can manage. But for the newbies who are actually counting on Athas.org's free material and your map(one of the greathest so far) to start a game session, maybe you should or rather ,I suggest you do, think of adding a legend for scale and what the colors represents. Other then that. Like I said: one of the greatest map so far. |
#36zombiegleemaxMar 04, 2004 0:06:14 | Great work Cyrus9a!!!one!!!! What version of Adobe did you use. I saw a crackle and sponge filter there as well as an overlay. Let me just say that I am a BIG fan of using filters to create maps. Did you use Wilbur for the mountains? I am a BIG fan of filters as seen here. http://www.freewebs.com/raloftyr/gulgnibenay.htm |
#37zombiegleemaxMar 04, 2004 6:28:37 | Well Jihun-Nish, I am actually working on the key for this map and I will have it and the maps on my upcoming website. As for Ral of Tyr, thank you for the compliments. I am using Adobe Photoshop CS (newest). Yes I did use craquelure for the badlands and I use sponge on just about everything prior to blurring and texturing. No I did not use Wilbur for the mountains. I created a new layer, drew the mountains in the appropriate color, then I set my layer style to bevel and emboss with the chisel hard option and some various other settings. I'm glad you like it. |
#38zombiegleemaxMar 04, 2004 12:35:32 | I have Adobe Business Edition, which was great in the mid-90s, I guess. I have version 4, but I don't know how to use it as well as the first version. I suppose I should learn one of these days. |
#39bengeldornMar 07, 2004 4:31:46 | It's the first time I looked at your maps and it's great work. But as I looked at the "A New area East of the Sea of Silt" map there were many things I wondered of: Is there any humanoid culture in this new Area? If there is, was the dragon also taking the levy of them? If not, why not? Was this area affected by the cleansing wars? If not, why does it look like this and not more "green" like The Crimson Savanna? (Maybe this is also another question: Is the Tyr Region like it is "today" because of defilng or are there other reasons?) There are so many other questions I have, but the most depend on the answers. Don't get me wrong, your work is great, but I think that before drawing a new region map there should be some questions answered. Many questions would be superfluous if the "new continent" was far away of the Valley of the Cerulean Strom. |
#40zombiegleemaxMar 07, 2004 7:03:42 | Danke sehr Bengeldorn! First let me say that the new continent is so close due to the map in the "Valley of Dust and Fire" supplement which shows land on the other side of the Silt Sea. Secondly, my main idea for the "New Area East of the Silt Sea" was to hold true to the Cleansing Wars theme and leave it almost entirely desolate. I am by no means done with this project and I will populate it sparringly with ruins and springs. I want it to be a place where DM's can expand and create their own cultures and such. Now I do have an idea or two that I will suggest for anyone who would like it. If you look under the thread "Mapping Ideas" you'ill find a culture of Rajaat worshippers that I wrote about. I have pasted the text here for you: I am also currently thinking of a new region, seperated from other inhabited areas by great distance and dangerous terrain. My idea follows: After the fall of Rajaat some of his armies would have dispersed into the wilderness. One of his warlords (not a Champion) settled his people in a remote yet verdant area. They form some sort of culture and time passes. The warlord (now deceased and entombed in a grand mausoleum) was a zealot of Rajaat likening him to a god. Over time, the truth of Rajaat and his cleansing wars become distorted. The people now worship Rajaat as a water god who sought to free the race of man from the evil(?) races of the world making it solely theirs. This culture believes they are the inheritors of the world by Rajaat the Preserver's decree. His priests would be either powerless or receive their abilities as elemental clerics of water unknowingly. This idea is not yet fully developed. I would place them in the bottom left corner of the map. I am trying to isolate them to keep with the fact that all of the SK's settled in the Tyr Region because it was the best that was left. This culture is not ruled by a SK so I would not have Bory's taking a levy from them, just terrorizing them from time to time. I hope I answered all of your questions. I will have my own website soon which will showcase my new maps and ideas for each. My work has been slowed by a terrible case of tendonitis in my right wrist and I have had to take it easy lately. If you have any more questions please ask. |
#41zombiegleemaxMar 07, 2004 11:50:43 | Looks really good Cyrus9a. Keep up the good work. |
#42zombiegleemaxMar 07, 2004 12:05:30 | Thank you Voiceman. I am now in the process of creating a larger version of this map to include every site on it. (Pennarin's Idea) This new map will be 5 feet wide by 6.5 feet tall. It will probably take me about a week and a half to finish it. Then I will post it on my upcoming website. |
#43nytcrawlrMar 07, 2004 12:48:50 | Originally posted by Cyrus9a Wow! Can't wait to print that bad boy out and frame it, hehe. |
#44bengeldornMar 09, 2004 23:42:49 | Originally posted by Cyrus9a As long as you got your own ideas *mustreadthethreadbytheway* there are no questions, but why the new region become desolated. Maybe I just didn't get your posting right (my english is not the best, as you can see) or it's in the threat you mentioned *whichistillhavetoread*. Your art work is great and if it fits in, it's even greater. ;) |
