#1zombiegleemaxFeb 29, 2004 21:53:17 | Hi! I read the dark sun novels (prism pentad) quite often. Awesome books IMHO, but one thing always confuses me: In the second book, Crimson Legion, Rikus chases Umbra to the citadel/crypt with the 13 champions of Rajaat. It turns out, that 12 of them are already in their sarcophages, just the 13th, Borys, is missing. Later, in another book, we learn, that the sorcerer kings are former champions. Now the big question: how can they be in their sarcophages AND rule a city at the same time, over thousand years??? Also, why would Tamar, the champion in the ruby in Rikus chest, battle Hamanu, who is another champion??? Well, I did some research on the net. But the gathered information confuses me even more: I found out, that there a 15 champions, who are called Sacha, Kalak, Dregoth, Myron, Hamanu, Abalach-Re, Nibenay, Sielba, Andriponis, Tectuktitlay, Oronis, Lalali-Puy, Wyan, Borys, Daskinor, Kalid-Ma (The page claims to have 15, but there are two names on nr. 4) In the book, Crimson Legion, there are only 3 champs of the 12 from the citadel/crypt called by their name: Catrion, Nikolos, Tamar . Not one of the three is in the upper list of names ?!???!? I've completely lost track. Can someone shed some light onto this??? Or are there any resources on the net, which explains this all??? |

In particular if you look there is a timeline of Athas somewhere out there which, despite several inconsistencies, gives a pretty good idea of the official history of the world since the Blue Age. But specifically to answer your question, the wraiths in the sarcophagi are not Champions of Rajaat. They are something along the lines of "lieutenants" of Borys. Borys and the sorcerer monarchs are actually the Champions along with several others that have died or been forgotten over the centuries since the Cleansing Wars. Also it's not uncommon for sorcerer monarchs to fight one another. Sielba, Wyan, Sacha, Myron and Dregoth were all attacked and (to an extent) killed by other sorcerer monarchs. |

( I suppose "The 13th champion") Edit: I re-read the pages again. You're right, two times on a page it is said, that they are his followers. First time, that they are his knights and the second time, that they are his liegemen/acolytes; don't know the exact english translation. |
