#1mortellanMar 03, 2004 5:14:23 | In Greyhawk much like FR, one can rattle off a lengthy list of notable wizards and archmagi with little effort. I am just wondering for sake of discussion, who are the top five NPC priest, rogue and fighters in the Flanaess? Top meaning in level. |
#2bdpenneyMar 03, 2004 8:54:19 | Depends... Do you mean mortals? Divine? Semi-Divine? If we only go through the ranks of the Semi-Divine, my list would be as follows: 1 being highest level, 5 being the lowest of a high-level bunch... Wizards: 1. Iggwilv (quasi-deity) 2. Accerack (demi-lich) 3. Mordenkainen (child of Johydee) 4. Rary 5. Xaene (lich) 6. Jaran Krimea (The Black Mage of the Vale) Clerics: 1. Canon Hazen (high priest of Rao, Veluna City) 2. Rigby (high priest of Boccob) 3. Anfaren Silverbow (high priest of Sehanine, Lendor Isles) Ummm, I don't have my stuff here at work, so the list for priests will stop here. I know there's a priestess of Istus in the top-5 and porbably another high priest of Boccob (greyhawk city boxed set) as well. Throw in the high-priests of Corellon Larethian and Pelor and you will have most of your top-10. You'll note that evil priests don't hit the top 7 on this list, though they would probably fill up 8-18 spots (Iuz's Greater Bone Heart, High priests of Hextor in former Great Kingdom, High priests of Nerull also in the Great Kingdom or whom are surviving Heirarchs (Andrade Mirrius and Nezmajen), High Priests of Wee Jas in the Scarlet Brotherhood, High Priestess of Vecna, etc. The reason for their not hitting pinacle levels above good priests are simple: evil not only has good as enemy, it also has itself. Unlike wizards (who are quite happy working alone and have constructs to do the little things), clerics will always have followers and other clerics around of their deity. In the case of evil clerics, these follower clerics will be gunning to take their masters down to usurp their places, and they have plenty of time to work out how to do it and who will help them. Hence, attrition keeps them from reaching the highest possible levels. Bards 1. Gwydisen of the Cranes (Child of Johydee) 2. Nightsong Can't think of any other bards of note on this one... |
#3avfanaticMar 03, 2004 10:53:29 | CLR: Halga, High Preistess of the Greater Boneheart FTR: Lord Robilar, former Lord Mayor of Greyhawk ROG: Gord the Rogue WIZ: anyone with spell named after them? I use mostly my own NPCs so these are all I can think of not already named. |

I seem to remember he had the ability to control his opponents weapons not to mention he's the ultimate sword master. What about Vecna's lieutenant, Kas? I can't remember alot about him but isn't he a vampire or something? What about your top five Mort? |
#5mortellanMar 04, 2004 0:02:32 | erk... okay lemme clarify. non-deific npc's and preferrably alive as well. not long deceased or undead, as in kas's case. i am looking for current year highest level npc's. i won't list my top 5 since i am hoping for other input and i don't want to influence results. lastly i didn't ask for wizards either, that was the entire point of the thread, people clue in on wizards too much and i think there is a shortage of notable npc's in the other classes. |
#6bdpenneyMar 04, 2004 8:21:47 | Warrior-type NPC's 1. Lord Robilair 2. Sevvord Redbeard (Ruler of Stonehold) 3. Turrosh Mak (Ruler of Pomarj) 4. Count Artur Jakarti (Paladin of Heironeous and ruler of Crystalreach in Furyondy) 5. Belvor IV (King of Furyondy) 6. Gneral Sindol (Commander of Iuz's Legion of Black Death). Certainly there are many individual fighter-types who are pusing level 20 (many generals in the Great Kingdom of Northern Aerdy and the United Kingdom of Ahlissa) and any number of tribal chieftains and provincial rulers and generals. In my findings, however, there are few indeed epic-level fighter types to be found in the Flanaess. Lord Robilair, Sevvord Redbeard, and Turrosh Mak are the only three I recognize in my campaign. Everyond else is in the high-teens, perhaps a level 20 individual or two. |
#7zombiegleemaxMar 04, 2004 10:06:42 | This is something else that makes Greyhawk so cool. There seems to be a lack of High level NPC's on Oerth whereas on Faerun (it seems) there are hordes of them. In effect our PC's (if you play them long enough) become the powerful and influential. I don't think it would be that easy in FR. Over the years I know my friends and I have encountered and dealt with (either in combat or on friendly terms) most of these NPC characters. When I first saw this post I was so tempted to name some of mine and my friends characters right along with them. Our longest campaigns went 35+ years in game time and the newer characters we were playing looked up to our older characters as some of the powerful NPC's. I'd like to name a few characters that I thought of but I'm not sure if they are canon NPC's or NPC's my DM created. I know one canon NPC for sure: Turin Deathstalker, Guildmaster of Assassins in GH City. |
