What the hell is this? If it is a Dragonlance Box-Set that compliments the DLCS then that’s great, I think we'll get that map we all want. But if is a Dragonlance RPG for ages 9-12 then that’s just dumb. Dungeon and Dragons, and by default the DLCS, is already appropriate for that age group. But I’m just guessing here. Can someone tell me what the Dragonlance Adventures Box-Set is?

Like the description says, it is an introductory adventure boxed set for younger readers.

Personally, I think this is fantastic. Already, the Young Readers novels are getting a new generation of fans into Dragonlance, and now young readers can get introduced to the Dragonlance game.

All right, but is it a "Board Game" like the old Dungeon Quest? I am thinking along the lines of a streamline d20 system for beginners? Otherwise, the actual material in the DLCS is appropriate for young readers.

Although if it brings a map I don't care what it is, I'm getting it.

Sorry that you think the product is "dumb," but if you're already playing Dragonlance d20 then you are not the primary intended audience for this product. For an interested potential customer right now who wants to "get into" Dragonlance gaming and had never been exposed to roleplaying before, there is a significant investment. At the bare minimum, you'd have to buy the three core rulebooks, the DLCS, and a set of dice. That's well over $100.

The Dragonlance Adventure Game is a product that lets a group start playing right out of the box for $24.99 and has simplified rules and pre-generated characters. It lets them play popular characters (the Heroes of the Lance) during a familiar part of the story (the exploration of Xak Tsaroth).

It is my hope that this will help bridge the gap for some novel readers who are interested in some of the game material, yet are intimidated by the investment required to enter the hobby.

I assume that its the same thing as this only Dragonlance themed with its plot roughly following Chronicles.

What the basic D&D adventure game was, if I recall correctly was a simple version of the game with premade characters, a short premade adventure, and character progression only up to the 3rd level with psudo rules.

These adventure games are suposed to be non-threatening, unimposing (they the price of the three core rulebooks is fairly large, not to mention those three hardcover books look imposing for the uninitiated) way of introducing the non-gamer to the game.

Its stripped down on purpose.

*EDIT* what Jamie said while I was slowly typing my responce :D

Don’t be sorry we are entitled to our opinion.

Anyway, my intentions are not to insult anyone. Maybe I wasn’t clear. If the product was just a cleaner version of the DLCS (like the Young Readers Novels) then I thought that was dumb since the RPG game is appropriate for that age group already. On my second post I mention that if it’s a stand-alone game with streamline rules for beginners than that’s cool.

And better than that, you can use the top of the attractive box to roll your dice in. Always a nice perk of boxed sets. :D

One thing I was just thinking would be cool for this game would be to use it as a family activity.

As a parent, I'd like my kids to eventually give DL a try and see if they like it. A beginner's game like this is a way for both parent and child to have fun together, sharing something special between them.

I show my oldest boy some of the pics from the comic book, and he often says, "Wow, that's cool!". With that sort of enthusiasm, I think he might like this adventure game once he's old enough.
