Mar 20, 2004 14:49:41 In any of the Planescape stuff does it say what is necessary to create a mephit? Any mention of spells that specifically summon them (for 2e)?

Create a mephit? I thought they just existed. You could take a male mephit and a female mephit and...never mind.

I think Summon Monster can summon mephits, Level V sounds like one that summons many of them. I thought some weak mephits could be acquired through the Find Familiar as well.

BtW, why do you want mephits?

Mar 20, 2004 16:07:41 You can have a mephit familiar with Improved Familiar. You can get them through Summon Monster. Getting rid of them is trickier. Pesky little sods.

They exist naturally. They're little almost-elementals from the Inner Planes. Not constructs at all.

Mar 20, 2004 16:38:21 Actually, they -are- created beings. For whatever reason, lower planar pests like to gather up elemental material, form it in to mephits, then send it to their rivals or foes to annoy them. Later, the mephits that survive and aren't caged tend to wander back to where their substance was formed.

Mephits in the Inner Planes probably create one another using the same spell.

Except it would use contact other plane.

Also, I have something tingling at the edge of my memory about higher-level mephits being able to create other mephits with a spell-like ability.

Mar 21, 2004 0:48:03 Oh we create them alright, especially for the 'sending to annoy rivals' part. You have no idea how many lightning mephits I've sent marching down to The Friendly Fiend in the Lower Ward. The static sets his fur all fluffy and poofy and... *snicker*

(It's like putting a kitten in a dryer for a few seconds, just without the bludgeoning!)

"Hmm, that sounds like the petitioners that routinely clog the rivers of magma on the more active of the furnaces... we get alot and frankly we don't want much to do with them. Mortal derived vermin mostly, though they do make good paper of sorts..."

Mar 23, 2004 5:14:05 Is there made any stats on Ash mephits in 3.0/3.5, here I’m thinking on any wizard products. Or do any one have a proposal for one, taking from the 2 ed. The main problem I see, is their major power, that spell don’t exists in 3.5 and is kind of stupid.
